In some cases you may have a duty to render aid.
there's an interesting medicolegal issue arising out of tx, a pregnant women who suffered a pulmonary embolism in november and died (when she was 14 weeks pregnant).. however, the body has been kept on life-support all this time (against her and her husband's wishes), due to an ambiguous tx state law (tex hs.

The Good Samaritan Law
Not in the U.S. We reject the British duty to render aid, except for those in certain positions (police, fire, doctors).
my uncle recently died and apparently he never threw anything away.
among many things he held onto was a letter that my brother wrote to my uncle in 1978 from bethel.
my brother was in the same hall as howard zenke (a real heavy at bethel) and nathan rode to all the meetings with howard and beana.
Some of them did not believe what they taught but as I was told, too many peoples careers, money etc were tied up in the ORG. So to keep the business going they just kept reinterpreting the scriptures. So many of the new jws don't know a thing about the wts before the late 80-90's and won't read any of the older literature b/c they were told " the apostates are using it"
I once told someone (1987) that it was too bad in 1967 I could not time travel to 87 so I would have the current light. He he
did you have any favourite books by the society when you were in ?not that this book was my fav.
yet it was the first book i read learning about jw`s.
" from paradise lost to paradise regained " i know , it was designed for the young , however my mentor thought that since i had no understaning of the bible it was what i needed.
The Commentary on James has been my favorite book or recent times. Long before that I can recall my mom studying the orange Paradise book with me and dear gawd how many times did we study the Red Babylon book??? I never understood it. The Happy family book was reasonably good, and the Happiness book was a good one too. I loved the Blue Aid to Bible Understanding book. Still have it. The newer Insight books are good too. The Bible story book was good and The Greatest Man book was good.
I found an old King James that the WTS printed. I have enjoyed reading it along side a modern Bible.

I heard some discussion about ability of the baby to survive. Some say in other cases like this the babies only lived a few weeks but there has been some who survived doing well. No one backed that up with data, so don't know. There must be some way for the doctors to discover soon if the baby is normal or has suffered irreversible brain damage due to lack of oxygen. That would be truly sad to have the baby born like that. it is a slippery slope to be deciding who lives and who dies.
I am against abortion except in the case of rape/incest absolute known serious deformity of fetus, or health of mother. This certainly seems to fall under health of mother.
Thanks to above posts for providing the known data of survival rates of the babies. If agree that they have waited this long, why not see if the baby is OK? i also agree most mothers would do anything so their baby might live. A mircle could come from this tragedy.
launch an investigation on jehovahs witnesses religious policy that violates human rights and abuses religious freedom.

I'm not signing anything b/c I don't want my email or name on some unknown form on the net.
Simon, I have read what you have written and while it seems true on the surface, you ignore what happened to us to bring us all here on the board you started. What you are saying sounds exactly like the WTS, "why don't the apostates just leave us alone ?" I have heard this many times, why oh why don't' those who leave just SHUT UP AND GO AWAY? B/C they have our families and friends and religion should not break up families and friends. Don't act like jws have a choice, they really don't. Any jws who does not shun ( if discovered and he's not an high ranking) will be threatened with shunning themselves.
Most of us are here b/c we are not going to shut up and go away. Did YOU go away and shut up? NO you started the biggest Xjws board on the net. Maybe you have forgotten what we all came here for?

They ruined so many lives, some never recovered from the harshness of prison . Further, the community in our area is very patriotic , as was many in WW2, Vietnam, and having a prison record did not make you an upstanding citizen in the eyes of the community.
Catch 22 , no way to be right.
thesis: the kingdom halls as a real estate entity could be couped; coup d'etat.
a group of 3 elders as trustees could sell the kingdom hall out from under mother watchtower corporation.
spread the money to the community or non profits, or just give it as a distribution to the congregation who paid for the kingdom hall.
Here is one of numerous threads about Bonham Texas KH take over in the late 80's ( I believe).
Dr. Gene Scott, lol.
an article on a jw who died from lack of blood.
family then sued..
I would agree with you gnat for the most part. however, Docs and nurses do get sloppy and in the past have used the jws refusal of blood as a carte blanche for just doing almost NOTHING. The only way to cause docs and nurses to quit being sloppy and care j( at least in a leagal sense) , is to attach sanctions to their license or cost them money. Otherwise nothing ever changes.
Jws present a challenge and a nuisance to docs. I can see refusing to do surgery but there is always the ER and situations with kids and PG ladies and all that. Once in the situations the docs must try as hard as they can and use all available resources to help the patient.
Recently (news from MA I think)the incident of the 13 yr old girl who died after a routine tonsillectomy. ( not jws) Her mother said she told the nurses her daughter was bleeding too much but was more or less ignored. I guess you know the rest.
I had a amazing friend who bleed out in the ER b/c the docs were so incompetent they did not realize my friend was bleeding until my friend had a heart attack and went into a coma. They were not a jws at all, not even close. The hospital staff was just STUPID. Hospital, everyone involved, were sued and the family WON. I wish I could tell you what happened to me, but it would for sure identify me. Just to say, keep a friend at your bedsides to make sure your nurse and doc do their job. The applies whether you accept blood or not.
JWS are a nuisance in this area but lets hold the medical profession to a PROFESSIONAL LEVEL OF CARE. No free " get out of jail" cards. In short, yes jws make it hard for docs/nurses but refusing blood does not excuse incompetence or sloppy care.
http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/national_world&id=9387373 ( as a matter of interest ) I know they are not about refusal of care, but the girl was bleeding excessively ,and ignored per the mother.
