i was thinking about how inefective the ministry really is, no matter how often one goes to a householder's door for years.. they just never bite the bate, yet the jw will keep going back.. jw's are clueless.
they need to know the signs the hhs give them.. it reminds me of that book he's just not that into you..
D2D isn't that effective for bringing in new JWs, but for existing JWs it works for constant belief reinforcement - if you're trying to persuade others you're right, you're not questioning yourself.
It also serves a purpose as busywork. 'Keeping busy in service' is a complete waste of time and a distraction from actual real life. But it also lets JWs get a nice buzz of self righteousness.
i just looked over some of the charities that exist as non profit organizations.. what surprised me was that wicca is also recognized there as a non profit status.
could the wts really lose this status?
.
They would print anything, say anything and pretend to do anything to keep hold of the financial benefits of charitable status.
hi everyone.
as a parting gift to you all before i take a much needed break from this forum, i thought you would be pleased to know that the independent, a leading uk newspaper, will be publishing a piece on the "mentally diseased" watchtower article in tomorrow's edition.. i would like to thank everybody who has assisted the journalist, jerome taylor, in his investigation.. best wishes to all of you,.
cedars.
Great work Cedars & all. Really well done.
so there i was at the circuit assembly sunday morning with my eyes glazed over as usual when all of a sudden, bam!
a demo with two brothers talking about the new overlapping generation teaching.
the reason it took me by surprise was because it occured during the second talk of the sunday morning symposium, "sanctify god's name by your speech".
I think a lot of people are gradually realising (althought not admiting to themselves) that the 1914 jig is up.
I'm hearing these type of comments from my uber organisation loyal pioneer 'friends' re the generation change:
"I'm not serving with a date in mind anyway", and "Even if it's wrong, it's still the best way to live".
There's a tactit acceptance that the overlapping generation theory is a bunch of crap, and at this point I think it would be a relief to the 20-40 something JWs if the society would can the 1914 doctrine entirely. To be honest I don't know why they don't, the older generation of JWs are too invested in the religion, and too depressed about the end not being here to leave anyway.
By older generation, I am of course, using the actual meaning of the word generation.
watchtower society of new york president max larson died today at the age of 96.. served in bethel since 1938 (73 yrs at bethel) long before geoffrey jackson & anthony morris of the gb were even born.. http://www.jw-archive.org/2011/09/bro-max-larson-died-today.html.
Yep St George is right, not anointed, not on the GB, just an humble(!) other sheep who got to be a figurehead for a corporation.

funny how many of the dubs didn't want their names mentioned in the article.
lol.
Guarenteed return of 40% per year? Who on earth would believe that?!
given that the wbt$ is always ready to insult the catholics and other religions why don't they slam islam in the same way?.
is it because it's not considered 'christian' or do they know that muslims won't take their insults?.
or do they and i just missed it?.
MrFreeze - there was a rumour on here that 9/11 had spooked the GB into bringing forward plans to leave New York City. - But that was 10 years ago, apparently the celestial chariot is halted by bad property markets etc...
i suppose its a little late to ask this and i never got it even as a jw, but:.
can someone please explain what the whole 144,000 thing is about?
has god only saved a certain group of people?
I never got why there had to be so many. 144,000 to govern the 7 million or so great crowd after Armageddon, as well as the myriads of Angels?! - Basically all they have to do is what Jesus tells them to. Seems like there are going to have to be some layoffs in the Angel ranks, maybe they'll be sent to where the need is greater. So one anointed to represent every 50 great crowd? And, I would assume "The Kingdom" wouldnt be run on a democratic system anyway...
Just freestyling here, but I suppose the ratio would go up when the resurected ones arrived but then you gotta figure in the "Princes in Men". All the ancient worthies would turn up expecting a government position, all the other sheep Elders would want power/payback, and heavens - the Nethanim mark 2 would want to call the shots. Meanwhile the Nethanim mark 1 would feel they have seniority, and the resurected Levite Priesthood would start throwing their weight about, but at least all the minor prophets would be around to denounce them.
However I guess John the Baptist would expect to be global ruler (earthly). And can you imagine the ruckus when CT Russell and JF Rutherford turned up having been mistaken about their heavenly calling?
this thread could be a saver!.
Best thing was that first breath of freedom after the end of a circuit assembly, knowing you didnt have to do that for another 6 months.
