Any JWs on here that still believe?

it would be nice to start a thread with those people to reason things over in the bible.

no name calling, no putting others down, etc.

it would be nice to show this to my husband without him seeing things like, "if you were a real jw, you would not be on here to begin with.

I think that's a lovely idea cognac.

To have a respectful discussion with people who still believe elements of JW doctrine, or all of it, would be very useful.

I remember when I was a baby doubter, basically it was only Blondie's review of the watchtower I felt comfortable reading. I was both scared and turned off by posters who would poke fun at the name Jehovah, like you mentioned, or who would be overly dismissive of (what I thought were) Bible based beliefs.

C'mon lurkers, say hello. We're not that scary really!

How much money did you give the Watchtower?

when you were a believer did you give large donations to the society?

if so how much did you give?

i know an elder who's a chiropractor and he generously gives $400-800 a month to the society.

I always thought that my time was more important than money, so didn't contribute.

I used to give cash, anonymously, to older sisters by slipping an envelope with cash into their Bibles.

whom does the governing body preach as the means of salvation?.

does the governing body's actions prove that they preach themselves as jw's slaves ot does it prove to be the other way around and jw's are really the governing body's slaves?.

jw leaks has published the june 3, 2013, united nations general assembly analytical report on conscientious objection to military service.. page 3, paragraph 4, of the report states:.

"the following non-governmental organizations responded: the associazione comunita papa giovanni xxiii, the centre for civil and political rights, the european bureau for conscientious objection, the european organisation of military associations, forum 18 news service, the german institute for human rights, human rights watch, the international fellowship of reconciliation, jehovahs witnesses, the quaker united nations office, the russian ngo soldiers mothers of st. petersburg, the union of conscientious objectors, and war resisters international.".

this 17 page report deals substantially with jehovah's witnesses.. .

TheOldHippie and Room 215 have it right. The society is an ngo by reason of being an organisation that is non-government. It is not now associated with the UN as a UN recognised NGO.

It just got really dark here and I don't know where my local fig tree is so I can't see if it's shaking. How can I tell if it's going to be just a rain storm, or the end of days?

We're all in various stages of recovery from JW madness. I doubt any of us want to take the mormon pill too.

OK OneTrueGod, if what you're saying is indeed a prophecy and it is important for us to understand, let's break it down

"Verily, thus saith the Creator of all things of life and light which are good. Behold the time of tribulation draweth near and is soon at hand; I am in the sun, and the light of the sun and it shall soon darken in the day you perceive not."

So this 'Creator' that is speaking, says it created "all things of life and light which are good". So did this creator create poisonous plants and insects and deadly animals too? Or is this guy just taking credit for kittens and puppies and not e.g box jellyfish?

Am I speaking to Ra or Helios or Sol, or one of the other solar deities?

"...it shall soon darken..."

What shall darken? The sun? A sun?

"... in the day you perceive not"

Yoda? You that is?

Let this be a sign unto the world that tribulation cometh quickly, the day which darkens soon cometh upon the world. Israel shall be attacked which brings retaliation of desolation upon the nation of Syria.

Who is going to attack Israel? Iran? Syria? Fiji? Please be specific. Also why should it bring destruction on Syria, they are rather bust with their own 3-way civil war right now.

Let it be known unto all nations, kindred's, tongues and people; the light of the Sun which bringeth light and life into the world shall soon withdraw it's light from the world and be taken.

Again with the sun, you covered this already, what is this repitition for emphasis?

Listen, I live in a country where there are not many fig trees. I couldn't tell you where my nearest fig tree is really. It seems a bit unfair that I don't get to see the fig tree shaking as a sign.

ok so if the bible is nothing more then a pagan religious book, then how do all of you that think this, think we got here?

and please don't tell me you believe in evolution, because even the experts are finding major flaws in that theory.

Humans have something like 98% of the same DNA as a chimp, and 50% the same DNA as a banana. So, logically, humans were formed from the forbidden love of a chimp and a banana.

Or maybe we're just living inside a working model made by some lazy computer programmer who likes to re-use his code (DNA).

Or if you care about evidence & suchlike... it was a long process of natural selection.

But I like the chimp/banana theory.

for the first time in years today.

to say that it took me five minutes to read the whole thing would be to flatter the rag.

it doesn't even seem to contain actual articles any more, just headings and bullet points and pictures.

It's right that if you have an important message to publish you shouldn't ignor the educationally disadvantaged, but to make them your primary audience is exploitative.
