... how you can take a book written centurys ago, and vague at that, and try to decern what the writers "really" meant and how the doomsday prophecys "really" indicated our times.
doesn't feel like your chasing your tail?
why not, eat and drink for tomorrow you may die?

i have a jw friend who's done somethings with his jw girlfriend in the porneia category.
not intercourse though.. he wants to go to the elders and confess.
i'm not sure of his reasons why, i mean he sees the bs of the cult.
When my ex-wife got into some trouble, she insisted on going to the elders to confess.
She came out crying, and cried/screamed something like "That was the most humilliating experience in my life. I will never step foot in that place again."
She refused to say anything more about what happened in there, and they certainly didn't help either of us sort things out in some rough times. But sure enough, she never set foot in that hall again. When we bumped into a couple elders from that hall at the grocery store some time later, as soon as they spotted us she spun around and practically ran to the car without speaking to either of them. I'm betting one of them was on the JC.
So... just saying.. try to be prepared for the potential negative effects of this. You may go to find 'spiritual forgiveness' - what you're likely to find is an inquisition (funny, I don't remember Jesus demanding detailed accounts from the prostitutes he offered forgiveness to...).

i'm looking into voice recognition software.
has anyone here tried any.
the only one i've heard of is dragon software.
I tried Dragon about 7 years ago, and it was pretty good at that time for simple dictation and voice commands.
I don't know if they still offer it, but when I got mine their big selling point was that it included a good Plantronics headset with a good noise-cancelling microphone in it (getting a clear sample is the first challenge of voice rec). It was indeed a really good headset, and I still have and use it today with skype - it's quality is awesome and it's survived far longer than any other headset I've owned without parts breaking/falling off.
EDIT: It seems this may no longer be the case, according to the cnet review:
The bad: The pricey license of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 serves only one user; rocky installation on Windows Vista; no Mac option; poor audio quality on included headset led to poor results.
Bummer. :/

for years i believed that god had created all the plants and their elements and nutrients specifically for us.
yesterday as i was walking at the getty museum was smelling the garlic plants in the garden and made me wonder.
if we are a product of evolution and the survival of the fittest, why do we depend on a wide variety of plants to survive?
It is very possible, and easy to imagine if you think about it. There are molecules that self replicate when in the right environment. They also adapt. That pretty much meets many definitions of what life is: self-sustaining things that reproduce and adapt.
I just thought I'd throw in this video that is probably related to what BurnTheShips is refering to (not really a scientific reference, but a good starting point for anyone interested in current abiogenesis theories.)

It seems as if we didnt evolve alone as if we are connected to the earth in itself. I am having a hard time presenting my question, so I apologize for it. My point is, If we evolved, then the plants also evolved.
That's the general idea. There are many dependent and co-dependent systems in nature that evolutionary biologists have dissected. Just because two or more systems are dependent or co-dependent does not rule out evolution - in fact in many cases they strongly support evolution. Dawkins lectures on this subject in "The Ultraviolet Garden" portion of his "Growing Up in the Universe" series.
How come the plants have things we need.
We eat them (and then only the ones) which have the ones we need. They do not supply 100% of everything we need, and we do not eat 100% (or anywhere close) to the available plant varieties on earth. We must also eat other sources of fat & protein including meat to have a healthy diet. Some plants not only don't supply what we need, some are of course very harmful. In some lands inhabitants have to boil certain foods multiple times in order to remove toxins from them. Plants just offer a large 'grocery store' of organic compounds, some of which we can use, and some we must avoid.
For some plants it is evolutionarily beneficial for them to be toxic (fewer things eat them, and thus, they survive).. and for others it has been evolutionarily beneficial for them to produce large, eatable fruits (humans and their ancestors farm them, and thus, they survive).
Some animals eat dirt, or engage in other behaviors in order to get all the nutrients they need. These behaviors survived because the ones that performed them survive and the ones that didn't got weak and died off.
It is as if the plants were designed for us, otherwise why do they have the exact nutrients that we need to survive.
If an animal could not survive off of what exists on earth - be it plants, animals, fungi, algae, etc... then that species would die, and thus would not be here. As Dawkins points out... plants are not here for our benefit, nor are animals there for plants benefit (though they do benefit from animals in various ways). We evolved together, and relationships developed that are mutually beneficial.
The short answer is, of course: If things had evolved differently and plants did not provide the nutrients needed for animal life.. we wouldn't be here asking this question (that's not to say, however, that intelligent life of some other form couldn't exist.)
in one sentence, can you define what the real "truth" is?
not the watchtower version (we all know what that is)..
That there are many truths.
I disagree. To know and understand all the individual cause and effect relations throughout and before the universe would be to know the 'truth'. We will never know all these things obviously - but that doesn't mean that all explanations are equally valid or equally ignorant.
Any explanation that cannot be reconciled with established fact must remain suspect, and until it is reconciled it cannot qualify as 'truth'. Philosophical 'spin is nothing more than a plee to remain in ignorance.
You don't need every peice of a jigsaw picture to get a very good idea what image is in the puzzle. We may still have a lot of peices to identify - but already the picture is emerging.

i totally appreciate the posters who have a ton of bible knowledge and love research, but me being a witness for a few decades find myself not really interested in many of the discussions here and at the meeting.
the current "grace/undeserved kindness" post by sir82 is a prime example.. first off i do know that my personality is to be sceptical about most things, and i usually focus on things that i can see or are more simple, especially if it is a topic i am less interested in.. but am i bad because i don't really care if jesus died on a cross of stake?
or i am not interested in trying to figure out when (and if ) jehovah is going to take care of wicked people or resurrect dead people........ i kind of figure we will find out when it happens.. sometimes if feel stupid about bible things, but i take pride in trying to live by the basic bible principles and laws (about stealing, adultery, bad language, etc), although i do have a good deal of general knowledge about the bible, i could care less about breaking down the different "loves" in the hebrew language or greek language, or whatever..... i guess i have a similar knowledge of the scriptures as the "christians" before the wts "helped us figure it out" starting around 1900. .
OP: You are no worse than the millions of Christians that haven't read all the other holy books in the world. Humans are not born obligated to read any and all books which somone claims to be holy - that is ridiculous.

Sad as it is - that pretty much hits the nail on the head right there.

my wife took our dog for a walk this morning around 9:30 a.m. and saw a ''service group'' leaving my uncle's house this morning.
she said there were about 8 people getting in 2 cars.
she asked me, ''why would they go out today when people are celebrating christmas''?
They're not willing to celebrate the birth of their biblical messiah. But they're completely willing to exploit it.
