  DMV experience--has this happened to you?

  hi guys, i hope all of you had a better day than me!!

  i need to vent.. so, today i went to the dmv to renew my drivers license.

  should be easy huh?

  I guess I'm lucky too. While going to the DMV used to be a painful hour wait, in the last few years they've really improved it. They even removed the majority of of chairs in the waiting area because they're just no use for them anymore. The greeters at the front door make sure you have all the required documentation before they'll give you a number, and now they have several number dispensers depending on what exactly you're trying to do.

  It's amazing what a few procedural optimizations and updated software can do.

  the parfakers are going up like crazy after years of being flat lined at 8500 or so.. in a few days from now i'll post my guess for the parfakers.

  then later on this year we can all have fun reviewing this thread.

  Do they count everybody that partakes, or do they already nudge the figures by not counting people that don't fit a certain criteria?

  I would be very surprised if the numbers rose yet again. I wouldn't even be surprised if the WTS didn't fudge the numbers this year to reign this in before it causes more people to doubt. They publish those numbers for a reason - to support their claim that the end is near. If the numbers don't add up and inspire doubts, they no longer have a reason to publish them.

  Does God Hear Your Prayers?

  many of us have axed ourselves, "does god hear my prayers?

  " the simple answer is... no, he does not.

  jehovah god is approximately 440 light years away from earth.

  I once created a neural network in software for an artificial intellegence project I was working on. In my research, as the network grew larger and larger - it occurred to me - even if I could monitor which neurons were firing and in what order, past around 20 neurons with 10 connections each, it quickly became very difficult to tell exactly how the machine worked (I used an evolutionary process to 'program' the neural connections and weights). The human brain has 10-100 billion neurons, and each neuron connects to 6,000-10,000 other neurons.

  Naturally, every brain is a bit different, because we are an organic creature. We do not all have the same number of neurons in our heads, and they do not all connect the same way to every other neuron.

  This all makes the 'say a prayer in your head' idea a bit of a joke. Chemicals and electronic pulses are firing off in your head in a way that only you know what they mean. I dare say, there will never be a day when someone can take apart a brain and say "That neuron there - that's the neuron that means 'chair' - because the brain simply doesn't work that way. It is the complex association of neurons that work together to form an idea, and to suggest there is a magical creature in the sky that is monitoring the chemical and electrical state of the billions of neurons in your head, along with the trillions of connections.. for you and 7 billion other people - is an absolutely rediculous concept.

  But hey, it's fantasy right? Maybe there is an invisible.. secondary brain attached to your first, that interprets your neural patterns and using a high-speed spiritnet connection transmits your thoughts to God's inbox.

  trying hard to be tolerant... would much rather hear the music he is practicing to...than just the plain drumming.. his uncle sent him a complete set of ludwigs from the 60's.....now set up in the house........ arrrrrgggg~.

  why do elders ask such personal questions when deciding whether to disfellowship

  a friend of mine was asked if she had become "moist" along with had penetration actually taken place , why is that necassary to ask along with did you fondle breasts etc surley they could keep it short and ask if the "deed " was done , yes or no ?

  why all the other questions ?

  she was only 19 with no experiance of life and sex and was so embaressed she could not answer and was disfellowshipped for being "cocky" any ideas ?.

  I'm sure some elders 'mean well'. But in my opinion it's just the society creating yet another situation that plays to the advantage of those in power at the expense of the innocent.

  Like the inherently flawed two-witness rule - the JC arrangement is inherently flawed in that it can quickly become a condoned sexual harassment session. The victim is often so nervous and guilt ridden they don't realize what is really happening.
