i've done a jwn search on beards and had some great reads.. i've learned the history of russell vs. rutherford and knorr and the hippies.. here's what i'd like to hear about.. either you or someone you know who grew a beard and the fallout because of it.. for me, i'd love to hear about the squeaky clean elder who decided to grow a beard and got removed because of it.. katie kitten, from england, on another thread told the story of her dad, the squeaky clean elder who grew a beard in the 70's and got away with it.. i don't think that would happen in california 2009.. anyway, what are your beard stories?.
i'm all ears.
(and my ears are freshly plucked.
In one of the halls I was in, there was a middle-aged guy with a lot of health problems. At one point, he was on medication that thinned his blood, and his doctor told him not to shave. If he cut himself his blood would not clot properly and it could lead to needless complications.
He ended up with a beard for a few months, and in the meantime was no longer allowed the 'privilage' of handling mics or sound until he began shaving again. He was really distraught about it.
It actually got me in a little trouble for it myself. I tend to look at the bigger picture and asked a few of those 'apostate questions' to my P.O. dad why it was such a big deal that he had a beard. My dad gave me some crap about the hippy movement, and I told him "Well, the hippy movement is over. JW's need to move on." I was repremanded for not showing respect to "God's Arrangement", older generations, and that I should mind my own business. Woops! Almost slipped into rational, loving thinking! Bad Lime, Bad!
Freaking JW Nazi's. I wish they'd quit teasing and go full pshyco so everyone could see.

PS: Everyone comments that I look better with my beard. Without it, I look like Bill Gates.
i always wondered why jw's were always so afraid of ouija(pronounced as "wee-yaw" not "wee-gee") boards.
does anyone have any speculation about who started these jw myths?.
anyone who has actually tried the board and would like to give their opinions are welcome.
The stories of satan/demons freaking out over the name "Jehovah" don't even make sense. According to the bible myth, Satan isn't a coward - he supposively stood before God in heaven and challenged God face-on in multiple circumstances. That's right, he stood before the supposed supreme being of all the universe and spouted off against God. But when suddenly faced with some gullible group of little kids (often on drugs) in a bedroom and one says 'Jehovah' he suddenly freaks out? Yeah. Sure. Right.
If you believe these myths, you really need to reappraise your skeptisim/gullability. And if you still believe it after that... I have a buisness opportunity for you. (Funny how as soon as you add money to the picture, people wise the f*** up. Nobody will put money on something paranormal happening... they just like to tell campfire stories about it.)

after noticing reniaa use that expression to give a "reason" why she was hijacking a thread, i thought about about people who use "i'm sorry, but...".. "but" what, reniaa, et.
it dawned on me (yeah.
i'm a little slow at times) that this is much more than just a lame excuse.
startingover:
I notice there are two spaces between the comma and 'now' on that last sentence. It's as if, some word was deleted.
My favorite is when people ask "Can I ask you a question?"

the drunk blows right through the stop sign.. the stoner sits and waits for it to turn green..
This is why GOD taught us not to partake in drunkeness or anything in similarity. It causes people to act foolish and abnormal.......
But then again... so does belief in god.

...or, love stinks.
i am so unprepared for this.
i feel like a kid just walking into willy wonka's chocolate factory.
I hear ya, darkl1ght3r. I'm in that same boat. Divorced my JW marriage at 29, hit 30 and realized.. I don't know jack when it comes to building real relationships with normal people.
Considering how many chick-flicks there are with socially akward guys in them... I can't imagine it's a strictly exJW problem.

PS: When talking with a potential new friend, don't dominate the conversation discussing what the voices in your head have been saying to you recently. Also, if the voices in your head have faces, and you happen to draw a lot of pictures of them, don't feel pressured into showing those pictures to your potential new friend. In fact, those sorts of things are best saved for the criminal trial.
so i was just cruising www.extj.com/foro.
mary received a interesting bit of osce information via a brother (peter) from germany....... http://www.extj.com/foro/showthread.php?t=14643.

You know, the JW interpretation of Revelation really hits the nail on the head describing the UN as a 'beast'. I mean... nothing scares the shit out of me more than opening my door and holy crap - UN representatives. Hide the children!
Oh wait... I got that wrong, I meant the opposite.
Personally, when I think of a 'beast', I think of something scary. Something huge, with big claws that sends you running when it roars. What I don't picture is a bunch of washed-up politians too irrelevant in their own countries that they've been deligated to UN duty.. sitting in orderly rows of chairs, and discussing how best they can take no action. How many times in your daily life do you even remember that there IS a UN?
And look at all the fornicating its doing! With religions! See, its forcing them to fill out paperwork and then discuss religious policies and freedom out of concern for the public welfare (and determining how best to take no action in response). Cover the eyes of the screaming children! We don't want them tramatized by this pornographic paper-pushing.
Yes, this is it. This is certainly the beast from Revelation. Sure, God exaggerated a tinesy little bit in the vision. He gave the UN teeth... and claws... then there is the highly exaggerated sexual prowess... and that pesky ability to 'roar' - but there is no doubt that the UN is the beast described.
Ok, so that's a little off topic here... but in the end, it's rediculous. The GB set up the UN as some sort of 'beast'.. and then when it turned out that it was the "DMV" kind of beast instead of the "smashy, killy, rapey, drink-the-blood-of-the-holy" kind of beast, they just keep teaching the same whacky nonsense and quietly get in line.

inspired by another thread.. i was baptized at 12 years old.
i had a cousin, two years older than me, who was prettier, more outgoing and more popular in the hall than i was.
i couldn't beat her at any of that stuff, but i figured i could be a better jw than she was.
When I was 11 I was in one of the DC dramas... and my parent's thought it would be 'really good' if I got baptized at that convention as well. I told my dad I didn't feel ready yet.
My parents hounded me on it for the next 5 months, and I was suddenly 'ready' at the next assembly.

If this video is what I think it is.. it is very clever, and well reasoned. Nothing really raises any red flags (though they might notice the WT doublespeak and be frightened away from watching by that alone) and logically leads the watcher to an appropriate 'sciriptural reason' for educating themselves on high control groups - something the society would NEVER want a witness to do.
