"Charitable Giving" Brochure
by HintOfLime incan someone provide me with some information on the names and nature of a brochure by the wt with a name something along the lines of "charitable giving"?
upon learning that a close jw relative was diagnosed with cancer, and possibly on their deathbed, the "friendly neighborhood jw hopital group" showed up, had a lengthy closed-door discussion with him one-on-one (wife couldn't be present), and left a brocure and dvd in the room with a title along the lines of "charitable giving" - i'm sorry, i didn't read the full name before it disappeared.
the 'brothers' (*cough* moneyhounders in sheeps clothing *cough*) had already left this "information" and had "discussions" with him before even the family learned of the situation and had arrived.. am i right in thinking this is a "you're soon-to-be-widow doesn't really need that life insurance money" brochure?

Which Figured it out First - Your Right Brain or your Left Brain?
by HintOfLime inhi everyone, have a question:.
in your experience, which side figured out that the wt wasn't really "the truth" first?.
the right side of the brain is generally considered to be the "artistic, emotional, 'all at once', sub-conscious, dreaming" side of your brain, while the left being the "logical, procedural, step 1 then step 2" side of your brain.. for me it was clearly the right side - my left side had been well trained to ignore or weasel around the logical problems with the wt.

You shouldn't find that funny.
by HintOfLime ini've tried to generally let go of my jw childhood - ultimately they are a sad people, governed by sad old men, following the poor advice of long-dead and even sadder men, congragating in sad pithy buildings.
tonight however, i've been reminded of something.. growing up as a jw, i ended up seeing several movies in theaters with other witnesses - sometimes just with my friends, but often enough in larger groups that included the more... indoctrinated... variety.
it seemed to me, that whenever the group included more than my immediate friends, there was almost always that one person that managed to find something offensive about every movie.

Ever experienced a "glitch in the matrix"?
by HintOfLime intoday, for about two hours, i was scratching my head over one of those simple, but (at the time) completely unexplainable events.. a few days ago, i needed a sharpie, i had just bought a pack of 4 of them a few months back, and inevitably, they have all disappeared.
i never found one.. today, around noon, i was reading a textbook (molecular & cell biology for dummies), and took out my notebook to jot some notes down that i knew i'd forget.
i opened my desk drawer, and pulled out a pen - the only pen i keep in the desk drawer (along with a slide rule, 'pink pearl' eraser, and a 3.5" diskette even though i don't own any computer with a 3.5" drive anymore.

On spanking your children...
by HintOfLime ini posted about this on my own website, but i'd like to get thoughts here as well, since jw's are big proponents of the 'violence is the answer' side of this debate.. new research is suggesting that spanking children may result in lowered iq's.
(la times article) one hypothosis i've read elsewhere as to why this may be is because when faced with an unexpected result (the glass broke) the non-spanked child wonders why the glass broke and how much abuse a glass can take before breaking (essentually, the problem-solving/scientific parts of the mind find the unexpected result interesting, and want to learn more).
the spanked child immediately enters fear mode - he's in trouble, his parents will be dealing him pain soon.

Embarrassing Moments on the Platform
by HintOfLime ini was thinking the other day about a potential answer to the frequent party question 'what was your most embarrassing moment?'.
immediately my mind went to my last experience on the theocratic school.
as an aspiring ms, i volunteered at the last minute to give a #4 talk on a particular individual (ignorant of what i was about to get myself into).
