i have heard a lot of talk over the last year or so if the gb will eventually ditch 1914 and some have even made the claim that most, if not all of the gb do not believe in 1914. ive given this some thought and in the past i wasnt sure.
this annual meeting puts 100%, without a doubt in my mind that the gb do not believe in 1914. id even go as far to say that they talked about that date and have a game plan in mind.. here is why i feel this way:.
there were a lot of changes with the parables at this annual meeting.
The 1914 was only important so long as they needed it to prop up their claims to authority. They don't need that in an emotion/personality based religion like JW.ORG. It's going.
Edit: They are already shifting away from claims of prophetic foreknowledge and keeping on the watch. The current spin is that they were selected by Jesus because they were humble truthseekrs.

I agree that they should have used 587 and then recacluated to the 1930's. World War II was a major world event. The naming of JW's by Rutherford was pretty much the birth of the organization.
I can't see them going back and retconning it if they are going for a more simple version at this point.
They've acknowledge the 100 year anniversary of 1914. It's now time to let it fade away.

the hermenuetics of the type/anti-type practice was a big deal to me in realizing the tatt.
i searched high and low for a rational basis for concluding that god was communicating in a type/anti-type format that wasn't special pleading and circular.
I believe that they are laying the ground work to jetison 1914 and probably the FDS doctrine.
Check the new literature, talks, JW Broadcast, there seems to be a very deliberate use of the term "Governing Body" instead of the "Faithful Slave".
The new, flashy, modern JW.ORG religion will serve as visible proof of Jehovah's favor on the Governing Body.
I believe that just as Mormomism is the template for the religioun's overhaul, that the Quorum of Twelve is the concept behind the new form of the Governing Body.

i have many doubts about this myself.
I agree that they will be phasing out 1914. However they won't do until they are secure enough in power not to rely upon it. The JW's are being groomed to accept "new light" at face value, without extensive Biblical "proof". How the most recent "generation" change was handled is revealing.
I believe that JW.ORG will be used as a sort of proof of divine favor and GB appointment in the same way that branch office growth was used in the past. However this will be more effective because it will directly impact the lives of JW's, more than a branch office in the middle of Africa.
The "time of your life" style marketing we saw at the regional conventions was a test. The thrust is to get Witnesses EXCITED and PROUD to be a part of a NEW, SHINY modern religion.
The 1800's image of sincere, humble Bible students is giving way to the flashy excesses of the rest of Christendom.
Specifically it seems they are modeling after the Mormons, a sucesssfulr eligion with even crazier backstory then the Watchtower.
up to 13 new songs will be released over time to equal a revised new song book and changes to songs in place due to the new bible.

Interesting about the parables. It continues an overal simplification of how they handle Bible prophecy. They are aschewing the "deeping things" of the Russell/Rutheford/Franz era and going with a more general Christianity.
Much the type/antitype style interpreation was used to bolster "proof" that the Watchtower-centric Bible Students were the correct faith as opposed to rival factions. This is being moved away from. Proof is no longer need it at this point. Whatever the GB says is truth.
It may also start a shifting away from 1914 in general. Now that 100 years of have past and they have had a celebration they can put it on the shelf.
New televison continues the promotion of a cult-of-personality around GB members. (Note how often the GB is mentioned, often in connection with, or subitute of JW.)
Putting all of this together it seems like Jehovah's Witnesses will be transitioning to a modern religion. The teachings will be simplified. Like the mormons the focus will be on family and community.

The part of elders spying has been common practice for a while. My online activities were watched before I was disfellowshipped. The elders even were adding print outs to my congregation record. I worked with an elder once who spent time looking through dating websites to catch JW's on the prowl.
However the idea of the JW getting Facebook and YouTube (Google) to change their policy is ridiculous JW fantasy. It's as laughable as the other rumor that a Pixar animator praised the Caleb & Sophia cartoons. Facebook is not going to change policy and their website to serve the whims of a fringe religion looking to crack down on discontent.

My speculation is that future Governing Body members will be appointed/annointed by a figurative "laying on of hands" by the Faithful & Discreet Slave. They will no longer rely on brothers deciding that they are anointed. The GB will insert themselves into the picture and directly anoint brothers for this position of service. This will give them a broader pool of sychophants to draw from.
