My brother who is a JW does sound at his KH and has told me that he has got into trouble a few times with the elders for purposely playing the wrong songs - he thinks it's the most amusing thing in the world to watch everyone try to sing along to the totally wrong tune. He said he plans to fake innocence, like he did'nt mean to, but when everyone turns around, he's got his hand over his mouth giggling.

Story: Sound Dept. (at Assembly)
by Jim_TX inwhen i was a jw - many moons ago, i hung around the 'sound department' at assemblies.. they finally put me to work - and let me do things like string wire for speakers, install speakers, etc.. i eventually learned how to adjust the amplifiers for proper volume, too.. good experience and training, that i don't use to this day.. anyway - i also was allowed to adjust the microphones for the 'speaker' who would be giving the next talk.. this usually involved following the feller out to the podium, and raising, or lowering the microphone to the proper height fer picking up the words from the fellers' mouth.. some required very little adjustment, whilst others required major raising - or lowering.. this one time, i recall going out there, and they had used a new microphone stand - one that had a ring, or collar arrangement that you just squeezed, or rotated and lifted, to move the microphone up or down, as opposed to the older type that required one to unscrew a locking collar, and then raise or lower the microphone.. i had not tested this previously - and only seen others work it, but it looked easy enough.. so, i follow this 'big-wig' out there, stand there, grab the upper section of the microphone stand with one hand, and then with the other i am attempting to <grunt> <grunt> get it... to ... release.. it wouldn't budge!!!
i was there, for what seemed like an eternity, trying to work this thing, then finally reached up and adjusted the horizontal arm - in a vain attempt to adjust the mic (it also refused to cooperate, and i think i only adjusted the microphone a total of 1/8").. the 'big-wig' speaker musta noticed my total and complete embarrassment (i usually turned beet-red in the face), and nodded that it was adjusted properly - so he could git on with his part.. i skeedadled off that stage - and made a mental note to figure out how to adjust that new type of microphone stand - later..
sheesh!!!

JW urban legends
by berten inin my time as jw there was at least one urban legend that was very popular.
amongst jaydubs.this was about the dog named "jehovah" by it's jw-hating owner.

According to the legend the dog turned on its master and killed him instead.Berten, i've SO heard this one!!!! I heard the dogs name was "Satan".
There was this other one that a CO related on stage years ago about two JW's who were witnessing and got to the door of a two other dudes who were actually planning to kill them with a pistol one had behind his back but when he opened the door he let them speak, he said "not interested" and let them go.
As they were leaving the JW's hear the men talking, one sais to the other "Why did'nt you kill them"? and the other one sais "Did'nt you see the huge guys standing next to them?"
"Brothers" the CO sais, "The big men he was talking about had to be angels, as there was no one else in sight".
Then the congregation bursts into applause.

THE MOST OUTRAGEOUS THING SOMEBODY TOLD YOU

In_between_days
i started suffering panic attacks, and the couple who studied with us, an elder and his wife, told me that i was allowing the demons in because of all the unicorn pictures I had. i got rid of the pictures, but the attacks didn't stop until i worked thru the problems in my life.
This is so bloody typical, what is it with JW's and demons? Once, my sis could'nt find her keys for ages, and eventually found them in the study, behind the desk. She got really worried and asked me to check the things in my room and make sure I do not have anything DEMONIC in there, because "I really did'nt leave them there, it's really weird". She thought the demons had moved them.
...................................... fair enough, then.
The most outrageous thing I ever heard a JW say is this half wit elder who dragged my dad into the backroom and showed him a book that I had left at his house........................... an essay on apes and evolution. He told my dad this was PRICISELY why he considered me to be bad association for his daughter. Even my dad thought he went a bit haywire on that on that one!

Why dont JW's have a youth group?
by In_between_days insomething that has been alarming to my jw family is the amount of teens ("young ones") that have bailed out of the organisation, never to return.. they use the excuse, as would most jw's that "satan is getting them - he knows young ones are vulnerable.".
if you want my opinion, young people are getting far more educated - they are becoming far more broad minded than they were say 10 or 20 years ago.
because of the slow yet sturdy slackening of the "no college" rule, many more young jw's are attending university or college than ever before, and with further education comes more knowledge, more interaction with reasonable and intelligent conversations with educated people and most importantly -use of the internet ("satans latest tool, as put by a jw i talked to recently).
-
In_between_days
As an inactive 19-year-old, I know first hand how lacking youth resources are. </P>
Obiting the sun, amen to that and welcome to the board.</P>
<P>I dont know about anyone else, but the JW youth situation in Australia is extremely dire (But good for us)
I
<P>They are dropping off everywhere, and the only releif that the JW's desperately cling to is "It's satan - it's proof of the time of the end - it's the internet ensnaring the young ones"LOL

Aussies - Need help, getting the news over here
by In_between_days into everyone from australia,.
i have viewed the recent airings on both bbc panorama and dateline, and was extremely disturbed and tearful from the child abuse cases.
i must add also, that although i had heard alot about the child abuse, it was extremely shocking to have it proved beyond a shadow of a doubt, and to also watch the gb's cowardly response to the case.. i know this will make a huge impact on my jw freinds, and am very keen to get the story over here on perhaps "60 minutes" being the most relevant show.

Where are you from? I wasn't sure when your post is titled "over here" - over where? In Oz?
Yeah, i'm in Australia
Thanks for your help everyone, I disagree that my family will not watch the show over here, they are very interested in anything JW related in the media, even if it is negative, they are always very fascinated in how the public peceive them. They would probably get upset and presume it is apostate lies, but I know there would be a small piece in them that would be shocked and a little worried.
I understand now that it is quite difficult to make this happen, well done Jang on your work and please keep in touch with me on your developments, i'd love an e - mail from you, we are from the same area.

I dont know if a similar topic has been posted before, but how can we do this? I know my family and JW freinds will refuse to watch anything on the internet and know the only way they would watch it is if it came over here.
Any ideas?

How many did YOU recruit?
by In_between_days injust a quick question, and one that seems to take jehovahs witnesses back a little, an extremely good question to ask a pioneer.
"so, with all your hours of service, how many people have you actually brought into the jehovahs witness organisation?".
um.... genuinely, 100% of my old jw freinds have all been raised in the organisation.

Hey, In Between Days..are you a Cure fan?.
Sure am, bad seed, im one of the biggest, how about you?
Well thanks for everyones replys so far, I must say i'm surprised at the amount of poeple some have brought in, some mentioned that they brought many in, but before 1975 - I guess the Wt really need to start dishing out those exciting false prophesy's again to get the numbers up. My strike rate was zero.
And the JW's say its the fastest growing religion. LOL

Genuinely, 100% of my old JW freinds have ALL been raised in the organisation. I can honestly say that I do not know of ONE person in my age group that was voluntarily recruited.
How about you all? I'd be very interested to know your strike rate - how many baptised through your personal study with them? If everyone comes back with multitudes, I stand corrected, but I would like to know,
................................... How many?
