I am exhausted emotionally.
by PaintedToeNail ini have been reading ashley judd's 'all things bitter and sweet' autobiography, and it has exhausted me.
she paints a picture of neglect and abuse from early childhood on.
as i sat reading, i realised i was identifying with so much of what she wrote.. why, when having an emotional breakdown as a teenager, major obsessive compulsive disorder, obvious depression symptoms, would you refuse to get medical help for your child?

I'm so sorry - seems with all religions it breeds 'extremists' and you have been in a very sad position - I don't blame the religion for that - it was probably a good way for them to be controlling.. My stepfather used it as a control mechanism, but I didn't have your childhood (((((hugs)))))

It's the holidays! You aren't a JW, but are you still a killjoy?
by JimmyPage indidn't you spend enough time sucking the fun out of the holidays?
why do a minority of ex-jws still need to point out self-righteously that the origins of these celebrations are sometimes less than desirable?
yes, we all know that the american indian was not treated well by the white man.

I dont subscribe to the whole competition of christmas - its ridiculous - one of my facebook friends today is bragging how she has already spent over £300 on her 6 month old baby and hasnt finished yet. - thats the second post like it today. -
dont get me wrong, I love christmas, but a lot of it is trying to make money from you, - i think if you want to do it, do it your way, its not a big contest about what you bought your kids. - I have a daughter turning 1 on Jan 3rd - it will be her first Christmas - theres no way I will be spending that on her - she will never remember and if kids have millions of toys they break them all and become spoiled and bratty. - however, I know a lot will go on food, and travel and we will spend loads of time together and blame my son for eating all the chocolate off the tree, - I love the holidays, but this year we dont have a rook of cash and I refuse to feel pressured into spending a fortune we dont have so it will be about family and love and the excitement of a child, those are the important things x x

How "spriritual" (cultish) was your congregation?
by brokethechain inscaling the level of cult control within the jw organization on a scale of 1-10, i would say bethel life is probably a 10.. i ended up in a downtown big city congregation, and it had a high influx of uber zealous young people from other parts of the country.
and, as controlling as the wt publications are, some elders managed to find ways to add more rules.
a very controlling p.o.

i think even people who are 'chilled' when it boils down to it will do what they want, get drunk, fornicate, smoke, and keep on going to the KH - but the big reason they become harsh with you (hypocritically so) is in case they are found out for being a sympathiser and get the same fate you do. - that is a bigger fear than anything - the fear that the elders can take away their friends or family. ive seen this even with my non baptized relatives and those who dont even attend. - they break all the rules and yet continue to shun me, whilst mixing with faders, and even people who are the most 'worldly' because thats ok, they dont have a label and you cant be DFd for it...
I think thats it, plain and simple x

How to handle it when a JW gives you "counsel" about some stupid crap
by Terry inthere is a catch-22 that can trip you up at the local kingdom hall.. .
if you receive "counsel" from an elder about any behavior at all and you "resist" or question the counsel you can be accused of having a "spirit of rebellion".. .
so, you have to either shut up and comply (with even the most ludicrous and ill-founded suggestions) or answer back and be chastised and "marked".. .

its when elders wives think they have the right to do it and they are your age... I remember that... being pulled aside for a knee length skirt. - it wasnt ok in yon backwoods country. i remember on other occasions people being 'dragged into the back' quite verbally - 'second school... NOW'
lol.

Elders Douchbag Awards!
by Unbrainwashed publisher1 inwould like to start a thread awarding douchbag elders in every kingdom hall.
not for the poor souls who are mentally trapped in org and serv.
for the greater good of the flock.. but those elders who you somehow never see in service yet pioneers?

i have my own personal favourites and their narrow view of reality.
many years ago I asked an elders son 'does your dad do installation'? - (at the convention)
he sneered at me and said, low and deliberately.. My dad [Name] IS installation....
looking back I think wow, take that out of the context of the witnesses and who gives a flying F?
this same persons dad - The elder - was once presiding over a clean up day where I was painting some bollards. - he wanted me to do something a certain way - which made no difference to the overall operation - as a reasoning adult you know there are several acceptable ways of doing things and its not just YOUR way. - When I suggested how I was doing it he just said again and again interrupting me - WHAT DID NOAH DO? WHAT DID NOAH DO? - I wish I were who I am now - I would have simply replied that you are not God.
eventually the son of the elder was reproved for having an affair - just as he was about to go on the circuit and give the memorial talk... - oh how happy the congregation were - no one liked him. the sad thing though it proved how Jehovah brings things to light at a critical phase... :(

Taking alcohol into the veins (WBT$ illo) - can someone deconstruct this for me?
by punkofnice inok. so i've heard that the wbt$ say that having alcohol into the body intraveniously (how do you spell it?
), when the doctor says you shouldn't have alcohol is baaaadddd!
so you wouldn't have a blood transfusion because invisible sky friend jar hoover says it's baaaaaddddddd.. no doubt the illustration is beyond crazy but how is the best way to deconstruct it?.
-
creativhoney
best deconstruction I have heard is along the lines of if you were starving to death, transfusing blood wouldnt stop you starving, so it is not the same as eating...
but you can argue round and round. -
i always think you can find anything you want by putting two scriptures together. - what about blood being life, and no greater gift than giving your life for your brother? for me thats an argument FOR blood transfusions..
might start my own religion :P

ive seen the nicest and sincerest either be refused co work or get removed from it. and despite being DFd - genuine people I remember with fondness, get nowhere..
in a way its good for them - it increases their chances of becoming despondent.
