cantleave I was like that for years. forgot my own needs. and was profoundly miserable. - I just found the old adage helpful. above all, to thine own self be true. - I had to stand up to my family in the end because they lived my life for me. if yours is tolerable then I suppose thats ok, mine wasnt, I wasnt even bringing up my own children. their childhoods were destined to be worse than mine. x

What do most ex-JWs "believe" after leaving?
by EverAStudent inhas anyone done a survey to determine what faith system, religion, or set of religious beliefs ex-jws tend to settle into after leaving the organization?
if not, would you care to post what you presently consider to be your own personal religion (e.g.
protestant, catholic, baptist, jw but not in the organization, agnostic, atheist, ...) and especially what you presently believe about jesus (was he a real historical human, is he god, is he an angel, ...).. thank you!.

I believe personally that we cannot know, or simply write off ancient faiths of others. that we all have a born spirituality and each chooses to worship in his own way. I believe that christianity is something that has in modern times largely another imposition on the rest of the world by the white man.

Just another logical argument.
by creativhoney inheres a thought.. yesterday, i asked my ex what he thought about blatant hypocrisy that goes on, such as the reinstated girl still on my facebook, who posted all her halloween party pics up this weekend... he said he agrees there are a lot not living up to what they pretend to be, but its not the religions fault its the true religion and has gods backing.. i said why did he take his favour away from the jews and place it on the christians (theoretically).
he said because a lot of them werent following god.. oh said i. so does that mean he will take his favour away from the witnesses too?.
... (no because they are the truth he said) - so black and white arent they?

The Spirit of The Congregation

others more liberal and still others, a little in between.

I grew up in a very family oriented one. it was hard for brothers to get privelges unless you were oriented towards a certain family.
when I married I went to a back woods one where you couldnt dress the same and dowdy sisters would counsel your sense of style. - the elders were decrepit and believed women shouldnt work, everyone got together for walks, and that kind of fellowship *Yawn*- everyone was a pioneer and there were a lot of 'divided households' wherein the elders took on the role of ordering the younger ones about.
then we moved. - this was a congregation that was much more 'lax' - if you missed a few meetings and then came to one, they would say 'havent you done well to get here' - this in turn made us draw the conclusion that if it was an achievement to get there, then the normality would be to stay at home.
eventually we moved back to my original one - the elder son of the number one family who would always say things like 'why arent you a pioneer' and they were all so proud when he was accepted on the circuit, and to give the memorial talk. not so proud however when he got found out for banging someone elses wife. - I feel sorry for his own wife who always wanted to be a COs wife. wasnt her fault.
that family dispersed, all of them went by the wayside, the result of over disciplining, the mum died and the dad moved away. all except the youngest son whos wife was in a bethel video and they showed it once at our KH with 'can you recognize anyone in this video'
vomit...

My Days Are Numbered
by Cthulhu inso i have been talking to one or two still active witnesses since i faded and have been enjoying those very few true friends i had there when we have spoken.
one of these dear individuals, however, has just recently made it known to a couple of the elders that she has a lot of doubts and isn't entirely sure what she believes anymore.
they linked me to her situation and started flinging the "apostate" word around in regard to me.

I feel for you, but they cant announce you unless they talk to you, and thats your choice. - if they have no authority over you, then why do you have to meet with them.

Disfellowshipped and Armageddon
by IMHO inwill a disfellowshipped person survive armageddon?.
will a disassociated person......?.
will an inactive person.....?.
-
creativhoney
no the answer is, a person who has lived a good life and always been kind to others, but isnt a JW WONT survive armageddon,
neither will the DFd one if they asked a valid question that questioned the teachings
BUT
the pedo and serial rapist who comes in at the last minute WILL.
up yours Mother Teresa..

The Truman Show.
by creativhoney ini was trying to explain what its like to a friend today.
my sister has recently outed.
a couple of months ago she was getting fed up of living with a 'sister' in her 60s who imposed rules and regulations on her - my sister is 30 and doesnt need a woman who isnt her mother setting rules for her and playing the 'truth' card as a landlady.. my sister got fed up and decided she wanted to move out.

its times like this I am so glad I am DFd. - I dont get this hassle. - my good friend was heartbroken when she was DFd because her dad was pooly and the prospect of missing his funeral was too much for her so she got reinstated, and stopped attending immediately (side point if anyone had a problem with me being at my families funeral, THEY would have to leave)
back to the point. her family do nothing but hassle her. peck peck peck. - in turn she has lots of problems trying to keep them happy and so lives a double life. - I really feel for how unhappy its making her, but she gets into constant arguments and I say just dont engage them - people have a right to believe what they want, and only each person can change their own belief system, not someone else it has to come from within, so trying to change them and make them stop believing is like them trying to get her to come back. - futile. - but still the arguments.
the funny one was when she said the other day she was at her mums and she had a cushion on her knee and her mum said, isnt it amazing how Jehovah made those lovely fibres..
(wonder if it was nylon hehe)

Jury, err, Judicial Committee Nullification
by Open mind injust had a brain fart and i don't think i'll actually try this, but see what you think.. .
i made myself a promise that i was done serving on jcs roughly 2 years ago.
and, with the exception of a rubber stamp reinstatement charade, i've kept that promise.

Open mind. Im very sorry for my vehement outburst. it is true that all people have the right to an opinion. - you included. - Its just all I see is hypocrisy. - and I am really grateful for your apology. I havent been on here since my outburst.
my family took a stronger view than most. - interestingly my sister decided to fade for the same reason I was dfd but they still speak to her.
now to answer some of the points..
@palmtree -
"its this kind of shit that has ruined my life."
Don't let it.
It may have ruined your life up til now. But only you can ruin your life from here on in.
you are correct and my wording was wrong. my life isnt ruined, but it has been left with a wound, and even though wounds heal they leave a scar. - how bad the scar is depends on how I nurse the wound. - I do make every endeavour to get on with my life normally - I will not by definition be an 'ex-witness' in the same way that i wouldnt define myself for the rest of my life as an ex employee of a company I once worked for.. - my life is much better now by comparison now that I dont have to 'answer to Jehovah' every day.. just my own heart..
and @open mind
So, creativhoney, do you honestly think someone would be better off with whichever 3 bozos the Hoooly Spirit picks? - I think its a damn shame that anyone has to feel so low and be judged by men who often are up to crap themselves. and the effects on self esteem are huge. - I know what you are saying, but we all know the holy sprit doesnt pick them, half the time I think they are perverts who go home and use the confessions as personal arousal material.. he touched you where? ...
I reserved my right to be angry but its not an anger at you personally - its just the control and how big it is for some, and how frightened they are, and how misguided it all is.
I hope after this we can be board buddies lol.
