as a witness, i never drank, and still don't. i mean, i might have a glass occasionally with a fancy meal, or in a restaurant. but those witnesses drink a lot. my sister has two wine cabinets, one for chilled wine and one for room-temperature wine. and they are always full. we went to cost plus one time and she bought NINE bottles of wine. her husband drinks two bottles a day, seriously. she was back the following weekend, buying more wine. and he was always offering me wine, even when i told him i didn't drink. just like an alcoholic, won't take no for an answer. anyway, they had a party one night and we went to it and everybody drank, i mean i don't see that much booze at my friend's new years parties. my niece says everyone she knows drinks. she driknks two glasses of wine every night just to fall asleep. and that's with al her meds.ugh.

JW's and drinking
by DanTheMan inis it just me, or is alchohol consumption at parties and vacations virtually an unwrittten rule of jw-culture?.
when i was in, i did not drink, and i still don't.
i often felt almost ostracized for this by my jw associates.

Cult Sacrifices Child
by cyrano intaunton, massachusetts - a religious sect leader who said he was following instructions from god when he let his infant son slowly starve to death was convicted of murder friday and sentenced to life in prison without parole.. the jury took 6 1/2 hours to find 29-year-old jacques robidoux guilty of first-degree murder.
his son, samuel, was fed only his mother's breast milk for 51 days and died in 1999, three days shy of his first birthday.. during the trial, robidoux said his sister had received a vision from god telling the couple to stop feeding the baby solid food.. robidoux choked back tears as he described how samuel went from a healthy, 10-month-old boy taking his first steps to a baby so withered he could no longer even crawl.
his tiny bones were visible, and he cried in pain.. "his cry wasn't a normal baby's cry," robidoux testified.

did jacques ever stop to think about all those starving children in third-world countries enduring unspeakable famine, whom god turns his back on every day? what made him think his god would permit a miracle for his son? these cultists and sectists [sic] think they have the inside track to the almighty. my brother-in-law, who's a southern baptist, got stuck in the middle of nowhere one night. so he and his wife prayed to god and damn if that truck didn't start right up! he said god sent them an angel, and when were we gonna get saved?
what arrogance.
what ----ing a$$-----!!!!!!!

Pledge of Allegiance
by giantjason ina bill by sen. william ``pete'' knight would require that all california schoolchildren say the pledge of allegiance daily.
under sb 1248, public school teachers would have to lead students in saying the pledge at the beginning of each school day.
this is very interesting, although i seriously doubt it would pass.

they have always said the pledge of allegiance in my son's school anyway. it's never bothered me. what would bother me would be school prayer, err. and it never bothered my son. they play the star-spangled banner at baseball games and everyone stands, many with their hands over their hearts and no one seems upset. you can always spot the witnesses, they conveniently disappear and then come back to their seats right after, ha. actually i don't know if they're witnesses, i just assume. so anyway it's two minutes out of your day and doesn't harm you spiritually or mentally, and we are americans, after all, so what's the big deal?
anyway, who gives a crap if it bothers jehovah's witnesses? if they don't like it, build their own damn schools...

Watch Tower Heavy Metal
by RR indid you guys know there is a heavy metal group named watch tower?
i remember some years ago, when i was looking on the net i typed in watchtower.com and came across their website.
apparently when the society decided to go online they must have paid big buck to watch tower to have the domain name.

why is the watchtower society so tight with their literature? i mean, you never see it on the web, ever. even on their own website, for chrissakes. you gotta write them a freakin' letter just to get anything from them. now why is that, do you suppose? it seems to me that if they are so hell-bent on saving as many non-believers before 'the end', they would view the internet as the perfect tool for helping to achieve that goal. it's like those infomercials. they make you sit through an hour-long demonstration before they finally tell you the price. they think that by that time, you are all primed and already reaching for your wallet...

didn't the guitarist used to play with Slayer?
sometimes you just have to crank slayer up just to get out all that angst. they're like the metalyest of the metal. but i never heard of watchtower. it's funny, all of the spectacular imagery on my son's cds (marilyn manson, slipknot, black sabbath, metallica, megadeth, mudvayne, pantera, etc.) doesn't bother me but for some reason that 'watchtower' image and name does.... oog.

Why you shouldn't annoy Reborn2002....
by mindfield inonly recently, youknow accused reborn2002 of linking a thread of his to a sound file that repeatedly said, "bullshit".
admittedly, the sound bit was hilarious, but that wasn't the point.
youknow accused reborn of being a thug and a goon, one of the reasons being the above.

normally, i don't get involved in people's cyberlives, but i just have to say that i looked at reborn's website and have read his posts and to me he seems like the sweetest nicest person, even when someone is as difficult as youknow was. i thought he handled it with real grace and adroitness far beyond his years. besides, he is as cute as a bug!
'and that's all i have to say about that' - forrest gump

that's a nice site; it just needs a little tweaking. first, i would hide those borders around the table. it makes it appear cluttered and constricted. bordered tables are ok on your events page, for example, but not on the main page. the right column should be widened a little to correct the text wrapping. second, use spiffy icons in the box of links on the left, rather than text. add some fluff like background color instead of white, and maybe a nice inspirational quote. sometimes a few simple changes can make a big difference. the simpler it is, the better it is.
you can also get good tips on the web: http://www.design.ru/ttt/
good luck!
