  "reason" with jehovah's witnesses at your door? like that's gonna happen. they live their lives with a passionate need for external authority and guidance, pretending not to trust their own judgment.

  i would have just closed the door on them in mid-sentence, withour saying a single word...

  i haven't been here long enough to have a favorite moment. i'm just glad it's here. and trust me, this place has a zillion percent less flaming and fighting going on than in other forums. simon does an excellent job of 'riding shotgun' on things like that. i don't mind when people disagree with me, or say somehting that is totally opposite of what i believe. it's personal attacks like hey you're stupid, or name-calling, that annoy me. but even then you can just ignore them and move on to another post. before i found this place, i was adrift, like the peole in this picture. this place brings people with the same shared experience together, and what's better than that...

  hi dustrabbit.

  there's a big sports complex right by my house. it's where we go to watch spring training exhibtion games. anyway, they are having fireworks and a carnival. some friends are coming up and bringing their kids. we're going to go there and lie on the lawn, wear neon bracelets and eat snowcones, and watch the fireworks. it will be the first fourth of july since 9/11, which is on everyone's mind this year.

  i bet you miss america. i don't know how long i could last in a foreign country... how are you going to celebrate, being over there? is it july 5th already for you?

  Time Capsule

  do you ever notice how sometimes the brain acts like a time capsule.

  how sometimes in the most oddest of events, you will suddenly dig up the weirdest memory.

  i have this happen from time to time with the witness memories.

  Did God Condone the Slave Trade?

  that is the title of one of the current topics at watchtower.org.

  while the slave trade may not have been condoned by god, article doesn't really answer the question as to why god did not condemn slavery outright.

  it seems to me that the bible takes a neutral stand towards slavery, accepting it as a social fact.

  When you really think about it, a person working in a small cubicle 8 hrs a day for little wages for a billion dolar company is IMO a form of slavery.

  that person is free to just walk away if he wants to. so it's not slavery. i think calling that a form of slavery diminishes what real slavery is somehow...it's like a really fat person saying "i'm starving". i mean, children in famine-ravaged countries are starving... (i know, i know, it's all semantics. don't get upset.)
