i always enjoyed the songs...i'd even sway to some of them, like "eyes on the prize", but then my big sister would pinch me into submission... now i think all those songs are L-A-M-E.

singing at the meetings
by Dustin inwere any of you the really obnoxiosly loud singer at the meeting?
that always used to make me laugh when somone who couldn't sing just belted it out in their horrible voice.
or i used to love the husband and wife duos that thought they were all that as they sat and tried to harmonize.

In Jesus name,,,amen!
by frankiespeakin ini find it hard to beleive that one needs a certain formula to follow in order to pray to god.
any formula you find got to be a human invention.
it is hard for me to imagine a god that is so petty that he won't answer a persons prayer unless they follow with the ending "in jesus name" come on that sounds crazy.

Prayers are charged a $9.95 connection fee.
heh.
PATER noster, qui es in caelis, sanctificetur nomen tuum. Adveniat regnum tuum. Fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo et in terra. Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie, et dimitte nobis debita nostra sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem, sed libera nos a malo. Amen.
OUR Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Kinda like the baptismal formula "in the name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit".
i love the way Latin sounds, and it's even more beautiful when spoken in a church. i always hated the NWT... the Holy Bible is a very romantic, beautiful book and the WTS butchered it and made it so clinical in their quest for "clarity". it's a shame...
i mean, just reading these texts is very stirring and makes me feel melancholy because it's so pretty
si non es baptizatus ego te baptizo in nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti.
If thou art not baptized, I baptize thee in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

LOL...It's like dialing a phone number without waiting for the dial tone. I don't know about Jesus working as a prayer operator. I bet the system can easily be automated and Jesus would be out of the job.

p.s. i think some of that "in Jesus' name" stuff stems from the rituals, particularly in the Catholic church. when i was very young, before the jw's got their claws into us, we were Catholic. i always found the rosaries, imagery and rituals beautiful and comforting. reciting "in Jesus' name" or something like that made prayers seem more special and "holy". but i don't pray anymore...

Dear Mario, I don't know you at all but I do care about you and have kept you in my thoughts every day, although I never said anything publicly before, for words are inadequate to express the sincerity of my feelings and concern, so just count me as another person here who genuinely cares about you. -Janette

by PaNiCAtTaCk inupon arriving i ran into lots of old friends and really enjoyed seeing everyone and visiting.
they dont know that im currently struggling with doubts about the organization and they think that im the same old zealous brother.
i couldnt help but feel a sence of guilt visiting with them about our current number of publishers and how many we had pioneering ect.

The district overseer said that he was visiting with a man at the door and he read some books from the society and that they were college level quality. He said that we were getting thousands of dollars worth of education for free and come to find out this man had been the HEAD MAN AT OXFORD UNIVERSITY.
(everyone in the audience gasped with excitment at this point)first of all, just because some stranger tells you something doesn't mean it's true. second of all, there was actually a mass gasp? how funny...
i find it extremely hard to believe that a man with his credentials would make such an idiotic statement. and if that's true, why don't they get it down in print where everyone can see it? 'cause it's a lie, that's why.

Gina's sister's (a "good" JW) baby is due in about a month and a half and she really wants to be able to hold the baby one time before we're DF'd.
this one comment says it all about Jehovah's Witnesses.
