just noticed that in the february 2010 study edition of the watchtower, they refer to the "millions now living will never die" talk in 1918, but they have changed the title to "millions now living may never die".
only problem, they included the picture of the invitation to the talk, which says 'will'.. ooops.
it's on page 16. enjoy.. .
I have earlier mentioned that in the norwegian edition "May/will" is rendered "will" or "shall" with the norwegian word "skal". Now I have read the danish and swedish editions from www.jw.org and discovered the following:
Danish: "vil måske aldrig" which means "will maybe never"
Swedish: "skola aldrig" which means "will never" or "shall never".

I have downloaded the norwegian pdf of that studyarticel and looked at what the rendering of "may" in the english text. It is the norwegian word "skal" and that word renders the english "will" and "shall". So in this case the norwegian translation is honest to the very original text. Maybe the norwegian translater is an apostateseed?

hello guys!i am just introducing myself here.
i have been visiting this site for about a year but never really posted much but i have really learned and enjoyed the topics on this forum, in fact i think this is the best discussion forum i have yet to come across .. a little about my situation is i am a non religious person married to a devout witness, when i met him 4 yrs ago he was out in the "world", never really mentioned his beliefs as we were enjoying life without it.
the more we dated the more i realized that something wasn't right.
Welcome to the forum. I am still in, formerly. Stopped attending meetings one and a half year ago. I have to be very silent or I will be disfellowshipped. For instance; I got the message that if I talk about 1975, I will be disfellowshipped. My children are 'hostages' in the org. I am not able to reach their mind yet. But I still hope.
with all their flip flops, errors and changes, do you know of any printed admission of mistakes made ?.
have they ever apologized for wrong doctrine?.
i think it's because of too much pride..

This is the closest I have found, but the FDS is still not responsible as I read it:

If we remain faithful, God will not let us make ruinous mistakes. But sometimes he permits us to be in error so that we may see our need to look always to him and his Word. This strengthens our relationship with him and our endurance while waiting. We learn from our mistakes that it is necessary to be more careful in the future. The desire for the new system of things to take complete charge of the earth has always been very strong in Christians down through the centuries. And because of their own short life-span, they doubtless longed for it to come in their particular lifetime. Those who have tried to keep God’s judgment time “close in mind” have, on more than one occasion throughout history, become overly eager for that day’s arrival, in their own minds trying to rush the arrival of the desired events. (2 Pet. 3:12) In the first century, for example, the apostle Paul found it necessary to write to Christians in Thessalonica in this fashion, as we read at 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3: “However, brothers, respecting the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered together to him, we request of you not to be quickly shaken from your reason nor to be excited either through an inspired expression or through a verbal message or through a letter as though from us, to the effect that the day of Jehovah is here. Let no one seduce you in any manner, because it will not come unless the apostasy comes first and the man of lawlessness gets revealed, the son of destruction.”

In modern times such eagerness, commendable in itself, has led to attempts at setting dates for the desired liberation from the suffering and troubles that are the lot of persons throughout the earth. With the appearance of the book Life Everlasting—in Freedom of the Sons of God, and its comments as to how appropriate it would be for the millennial reign of Christ to parallel the seventh millennium of man’s existence, considerable expectation was aroused regarding the year 1975. There were statements made then, and thereafter, stressing that this was only a possibility. Unfortunately, however, along with such cautionary information, there were other statements published that implied that such realization of hopes by that year was more of a probability than a mere possibility. It is to be regretted that these latter statements apparently overshadowed the cautionary ones and contributed to a buildup of the expectation already initiated.

In its issue of July 15, 1976, TheWatchtower, commenting on the inadvisability of setting our sights on a certain date, stated: “If anyone has been disappointed through not following this line of thought, he should now concentrate on adjusting his viewpoint, seeing that it was not the word of God that failed or deceived him and brought disappointment, but that his own understanding was based on wrong premises.” In saying “anyone,” TheWatchtower included all disappointed ones of Jehovah’s Witnesses, hence including persons having to do with the publication of the information that contributed to the buildup of hopes centered on that date.

Welcome on board, "Paul".
I got the same experience a year and a half ago. Doubts building up throug years, finally I draw the conclusion. I think I did a mistake with telling my children about it. I would have had better possibilities to influence them with playing loyal publisher a wail more. Excuse my english. I am a foreigner. . Because of that I most active on european boards.
By the way; you have to live with your decissions in the future, but your way of seeing things will also change. The most important things is your family's wellfare, I think, and your self-esteem.
Good luck with your lifte further.
i had a brief chat with my lawyer last week and discussed religion as i always do with him (he's an atheist).
he asked how the jw's were doing and so i told him that i no longer go and that i to am an athiest (well, not entirely an atheist as i do believe that there may be some other forces out there somewhere and will believe that until it has been proved otherwise).
he was very pleased to hear this.. anyway, i asked him if it would be possible to file a law suit against the wts?.
We have just discussed this in Norway on www.avhopperforum.org (jump offer's forum). We addressed the problem more to the fact that the disassociation is publicly announced. That is against norwegian law, because it shal only be the board in the congregation that shall know. It is difficult anyway because of the religious freedom. No cases has been proven at the court, but my lawyer sais it may be difficult.
i had a request for documentation of the watchtower societys statements regarding the year 1975. so, ive put these files up for downloading from a filesharing service.
the first file contains the complete text of 3 issues of awake!
26-35 (file is 12 mb):.
Thank you very much from Norway, Cabasilas.
