Don Holley a Welshman who came off due to ill health/age in Oct 2013. One of the better ones - I think he was a coal miner on rescue work at the Aberfan disaster in 1966. He was in his seventies anyway and so would have finished this year under the new rules. Nice wife, Celia.

Service Meeting Adjustment w/c 1st September
by konceptual99 inprobably nothing of major note but there is an adjustment to the service meeting of w/c 1st september to allow for a 15 min local needs the society have asked the elders to deliver.
this is in uk and i've no idea if it affects other regions.. if it's uk only then i suspect it's either specifically about donations or more likely the status of the new branch facility, asking for volunteers/money.
given that the elder delivering it in our hall is prominent on the local rbc then i suspect the latter.. .

Is this just UK only? 15 minutes is a big change for a non-headquarters branch to make.
Sorry double post for some reason.

Is this the big change?
by Saltheart Foamfollower inamong all of the other changes recently, there have been broad hints that the biggest change(s) are yet to come.
an instruction has appeared on the elders only part of jw.org to set aside 15 minutes on the sept 1 service meeting with further details to follow.
of course it could just be another load of hot air, but it seems a strange thing to do after making a fuss about all of the service meeting parts this month being focussed on the kingdom (all of the parts for wb sept 1 have material - no local needs get out) when i hear more i'll post details..

So is this just UK and who would see it on jworg? Do certain elders get to see more stuff than other elders?
Is it a change from the printed KM for Sept? I can't get mine off the website - I guess only elders see it on there?

I now have a law degree!
by digderidoo inhi guys, i don't really post on here much anymore, having been on here since 2001. this site helped me out in the early days and has been a great support system for all of my past jw issues.
like many others i was discouraged from an education so that i could window clean and pioneer in my youth during the 80's.
having spent many years post my jw exit in alcoholism and periods of drugs, i decided to clean myself up 7 years ago by attending aa, i was still a window cleaner ... at the time i wrote extensively on here about my issues.

The Paradise Book started Orange and then it was more Orangey Pink ... over years it gradually faded. How sensible of it.

Let me take a stab at this.
Bro-in-law is a young elder, probably 30 ish - out to make a name for himself as a put 'em right zealot with a KS elder book in one hand, branch letters to elders in the other and an eye to being "used" at circuit or district regional level on items as a circuit overseer's golden boy.
Dad has been round the block - say 50+, and by his comments re: the GB he truly knows the score (has his KH given up thousands of dollars of saved up funds recently?) He remembers how his own Mother (and unbelieving Father?) argued about getting an education and that he believed heavily in the 70's and 80's and his best years have passed him by.
I would say Bro-in-law (new breed of elder not aware of '75, the generation of 1914 pre-1995 and is happy with the rubberband overlappy crap cuz it's a comin' so soon!) has been needling for a while and is well aware of the "examine qualifications" letter of an appointed man who "approves" of a son or daughter going to college for non-society approved reasons. (i.e. property law and pedo damage limitation law)
There will be fall-out and I reckon Dad will resign or get pushed over this. The wild card is the Mother. Where is she in all of this?
To the OP - college is good but like a previous poster said, don't discount other options. Running your own business whether based on selling solutions, a trade or a profession like e.g. accountancy can be good too.
I'm probably miles off target, but hey!

Dear Dad,
Great to hear from you! How am I doing? Just great! let me tell you about all the good things going on in my life.
(List them ... all of them)
I've attached some photos of the grandchildren and they all send their love too. We'd love to come and see you some time or have you and Mom over to visit with us. How about we arrange that real soon?
Now thank you for your concern about the end being very soon; I've been thinking real deep about that and I just wanted to say two things.
1. Nothing of the last days approaches the misery of WW2; Vietnam of the 60's and 70's doesn't come close. The Twin Towers' destruction, while deeply shocking resulted in the deaths of a few thousand. In 1945 in Dresden 25,000 died in one bombing raid. In Hiroshima 150,000, in Nagasaki 75,000. Even London lost 40,000 to the Blitz of 1940/41.
In total over 60,000,000 died in WW2; there is nothing before or since that hits that grand scale of human misery. WW2 ended almost 70 years ago. The last days are far far better now than they were in 1940/45.
2. Luke 21 vs 8.
I feel this verse of the Bible has been ridden roughshod over by those who claim the end is soon. I think of how the end was coming in 1914, then 1925, then WW2, then 1975, then the generation of 70 or 80 years starting in 1914 ending in 1984 - 1994. Even now there are books on Watchtower library which say that the end will come in "our twentieth century" (Know Jehovah ... Ch12 p216 para9).
I am sorry you have devoted your whole life to believing the end is "very soon" or "just around the corner", I truly am. I implore you to enjoy your remaining good years and to see good for all your hard work.
Let's meet up real soon.
Please give Mom a hug, your ever loving etc etc

So how are elders going to be appointed again from now on?
by toto555 inso have we got any additional clarification since the initial announcement on this?
the change is almost 1 month away and we still don't know how this is going to work exactly?
so what's the deal?

Yeah, it'll probably feel the same, just that the CO will have the final word in the vast majority of cases.
