And of course Lazarus being dead an' all means there was no chaperone. Disgraceful.

Just a little anecdote illustrating how out of touch the typical JW is
by sir82 inthis weeks book study lesson was on martha, the sister of lazarus.
the chapter in the "imitate their faith" book praised her for being "industrious".. the conductor at our congregation meeting was just positively gushing about how "industrious" modern-day jw women are.. he was so exciting, he could barely get the words out.
following is not an exact quote, but conveys the gist:.

Remember "step-by-step progress"? That was a little buzz word/phrase for a while.

Back here in the UK of course we have recently had our second female Prime Minister take office.
Meanwhile back in the Kingdom Hall women cannot run a microphone, wear trousers or read for the congregation.
Jeez!

Sorry to hear your difficulties agnostic now - welcome to the forum. You will get lots of good advice here.
My twopenneth is for you and your partner to not criticise her mother in front of her however twisted she behaves; do all you can to guide and build her relationship with you (not being lax and soft but give her alternative goal ideas that match her true self away from jw land).
Is your daughter baptised? If not then I would try to persuade her to think long and hard before doing so and make it known that you feel she shouldn't be baptised as a minor.
Get well clued up on jw doctrine and how to cast doubt on it by using genuine thoughtful questions with your daughter using only the Bible and jw publications in a calm and reasoning manner.

What The Org Teaches: #2 THE GREAT TRIBULATION
by The Searcher inevery single bible student/jehovah's witness who has ever lived, has been indoctrinated to believe that a catastrophic great tribulation would very soon engulf the entire earth, causing untold death & destruction.
this spurious teaching is drummed into every j.w.
's head and used by them as a major recruitment tool.

Very good thread. Although I feel mentally free it is good to reinforce how some of the main pillars of borg teaching are on foundations of sand.

Well done! Just a note - your youtube title on the video says June 26th not July 26th.

Things I remember growing up in the 70s
by The Rebel ini remember sitting on my daddy's lap and driving an imaginary car, i also remember sitting on my mummies lap on the front seat, without a seat belt whilst my dad drove a real car.
i remember we bought fish and chips from the chippy wrapped in yesterday's newspapers.
i remember bouncing up and down on my space hopper in the garden.

@Landy
We did that in the south of the UK too - we called them "trolleys" or "carts".

Your opinion about dating sites?
by nevaagain ini have been a jw all my life, while i also have a "spiritual divorce", which means i can remarry a jw again.
i am not sure if i want to go that route again and dating in the jw world feels like a struggle sometimes.
with all the rules.

Try a hobby/passion that has plenty of females in it but that you might also enjoy?
Volunteer work? Dancing? Gardening? Learning languages?

Sports mopeds - a mid to late 70's phenomenon.
In the UK the age to ride a motorcycle went up to 17 and so in the early 1970's a 16 year old could only ride a 50cc moped (a tiny motorbike with pedals so you could pedal it along too) which would reach about 30 mph tops.
So the Japanese manufacturers and some European ones like Gilera Garelli KTM "sooped up" these bikes and gave them gears and a top speed of about 50 - 60 mph.
