Thanks White Dove! That is a big comfort to me too.
It's horrible really, how the loss of somebody you love dearly is yet another excuse for emotional blackmail to these people...
my mother, like all the dubs, excels at dropping casual sentences here and there designed to suck me back into the borg.... her latest subtle (not) attempt to use my father's death as the drawing card was to send an sms saying only: "death is so unnatural".. of course i remember all those public talks, so i know exactly where she's coming from: we were made to live forever so no wonder death is so painful for us to deal with.. but honestly, what planet are they on????
death unnatural?
on the planet earth death is the most natural thing ever!

But why should it be only for humans that death wasn't meant to be? Did Satan introduce all death? Including that of plants and aniamls? We are a part of the natural world around us, why shouldn't it be as natural for us as it is for every other living thing? Doesn't make sense to me...

But honestly, what planet are they on???? Death unnatural? On the planet earth death is the most natural thing ever! It is an inherent part of the life cycle! Plants and animals must die daily in order to sustain our lives. A seed must die in the earth in order that the plant can germinate. All things die in order to feed the cycle of life. Personally, I find this thought much more comforting... Death is painful merely because we miss those who are no longer with us. But it is a natural and inevitable part of life.\
Little does she know... with every casually dropped preach-bomb, she opens my eyes wider and wider to the ludicrousy of it all.
i wanted to say a few things to current and former elders.
it was really a post by alltimejeff on 10/1/2009 that got me thinking about this and i address a few things that he says here.
but i dont want to single him out because i really think that he is typical of many, and he did in fact apologize for his actions at the end of his post.
And then these young, inexperienced men are given the responsibility of counselling people with marriage problems, mental health problems....
The organisation creates mini-Hitlers out of innocent young men. It's like the Hitler Youth brigades, and I have the greatest respect for any who are strong enough to eventually escape the brainwashing and admit their mistakes.
do you have the revelation, its grand climax at hand" book"?
it is a fascinating book backed up throughout with scriptures will open your eyes but you must read it from beginning to end.. the above is a quote from my jw friend, inactive for 30 years and thinking of sheepishly returning.
is the book cited above a scholarly and dependable commentary on revelation?.
the pictures make great tattoos though!
sortof like this, only sleazier.
.
try leaving and see if the local goon squad doesn't come on like this..
Ooh yeah! And if you happen to be unlucky enough to have the two rolled into one: an abusive husband who happen to be an elder... just like the sleaze in the clip only he also thinks he has the god-given right to keep you in line...
I believe that the Borg gives birth to abuse in many forms.
i realize you believe the bible is the truth.
do you believe it is the only truth?
i wonder how you feel about other major religious books, like for other religions who have and never will be christian.
My apologies once again, if it seems I am trying to 'derail' this thread. I was merely expressing my Christian opinion. I didn't know there were rules against that.
I'll butt out now and let you guys continue your discussion...

Do you think I am not a Christian?

I guess I am talking to anyone who still believes that their way of worship is the only right way and that anyone else is wrong. I have the greatest respect for Jesus and I love the Bible, but I think that Buddha and Confucius had it right as well. I guess in answer to homeschool's question, yes, I think that non-Christian religions also have the truth. I am not talking about doctrine, because as far as I'm concerned that is all just philosophical debate which it is not possible to verify one way or the other. I'm talking about morals and ethics. Individuals in those religions are just as capable of living a life of 'truth' as any Christian. How can we say that one way is better than the other? A wise and loving God should be able to recognise the genuine love of him no matter which religious practices accompany it. Like yknot... I think if there is one thing we should have learned from the JWs, it is the danger of being narrow-minded and judging.
RR: I like your thought that all people will be helped regardless of religious affiliations. But do you mean that all people will have to become Christians? Once again, I hope that this does not sound insulting. Personally I just find that there is such a lot of wisdom in Eastern religions that I find it surprising that other people think Christianity is the only way. In fact to me part of the appeal and wisdom of many Eastern religious philosophies is that they do not claim to have the one and only truth.
... start over with friends?.
i would like to suggest that we leave finding another church out of this, not because it isn't a good idea for our theistically minded friends.
for those that choose to do so, it seems like they do alright, and that seems the easiest suggestion to make.. so if thats for you, consider me taking care of that as suggestion #1.. but what if you need a break from the whole church scene?
One good thing about being raised a Witness, is that we know how to talk to people! We are usually well trained and adept at making small talk in situations where most people would be uncomfortable. And are pretty used to introducing ourselves to complete strangers. That helps! (How to do it without sounding like a car salesman is another thing though )
I agree with many of the ideas above... just get into anything and everything that you are interested in! Join groups, do voluntary work, take courses. You are going to meet interesting people.
One thing that I've found hard though, is that while its easy to meet people, its harder to make close friends. Most people have not had the sudden disruption of their entire social system in the way that we have when leaving the borg. Therefore many of them have good friendships already established. As shopaholic says, it takes time.
