i was under the impression that wtbts were selling up because they were short of funds......wouldn't this money be better spent donated elsewhere?.

I just got back Friday from a week spent in Hawaii and on the local news the ticker read something like: "Jehovah's Witnesses to gather for a convention here in Hawaii, expected to bring in millions of tourism dollars." It made me sick because the jw's will take this as some supposed 'blessing from Jehovah' that not only were they blessed enough to come up with the funds and the time off and the perfect circumstances to get to Hawaii for a convention, but now they are being 'advertised'. Sure enough as we were waiting to leave on our plane from Hawaii back home, several people were getting off incoming planes with their convention badges on already! I used to think that International Conventions were such a big deal and how sad that I would never be accepted to one because I had the 'unbelieving mate' and the unbaptized kids. But as I was in Hawaii I thought how stupid that was, I could just walk into this stupid convention and what could they do? It's unbelievable the amount of mind control that I was under. The only thing Hawaii is glad about is the money because the news kept mentioning how tourism and money were down in Hawaii. Seeing the news and those badges really made me angry and sick..............wf

i mean think about it..........i'm at a point where i don't believe holy spirit had anything to do with getting jw's out in the ministry and yet for my 15 very active jw years, i never once encountered a violent or even really rude person at the door, not even a mad dog!

i know some people have but it's certainly not the majority.

so in a round-about way we can thank the jw's for there work for proving just the opposite of what they preach which is, "most people are lost, living debauched lives of violence and hate , etc......" instead most people are very good!

it isn't 'god' that will provide for our futures, feed the hungry, cure diseases and fight injustice - you and i will do that.

Let me recommend Greg Braden's The God Code to read. It's about the tetragrammaton and how the Hebrew alphabet has not only letters but is translated into numbers and minerals showing how the God or the Tetragrammaton are encoded into our DNA. The only difference between humans and God is that we are made of carbon. It's kind of complicated but a fantastic read especially for JW's since it's been pounded into our heads that the name of God is the most important thing we can know and use. But this book shows that it's not about using a particular name.

Example: YHVH=Name of God. Chemical Equivalent: Y=Hydrogen, H=Nitrogen, V=Oxygen, H=Nitrogen

YHVG=Name of Man. Chemical Equivalent: Y=Hydrogen, H=Nitrogen, V=Oxygen, G=Carbon

He gets into why this is so significant to understanding that we are made of God and all that that implicates. I probably torched this explanation but it is a fascinating read, I highly recommend it!...........wf

Reflections on Circuit Assembly - Satan's gonna get you!

had our ca recently.. others have posted on the program contents in other posts here, so i won't do that here.. but i was struck by something over the 2 days of mindless repetition and out-of-context scriptural quotations: the number of times "satan" was referenced.

he was easily the 2nd-most referenced bible character, after jehovah of course, but far outpacing jesus, paul, david, etc.. "don't view porn, because you'll make satan happy..." "satan wants you to fail..." "satan is doing everything in his power to destroy your family..." "satan has succeeded in causing some brothers to give up..." "satan.....satan....satan....satan!!!".

virtually every talk included something about how satan is just waiting to do something perfectly revolting, to us personally.. i imagine this topic is covered at virtually every assembly, but this time for some odd reason, it really struck me.. what do you suppose the effect of all these "satan is going to get you!

It's all about fear. And my thoughts are 'you get what you ask for'. So the more they talk about Satan and the demons, the more it will appear to manifest itself in their lives. The last function I went to before I left was last Jan. CA and I noticed the exact same thing! Like you, it was weird that, that is what I picked up on. I thought to myself then "Satan must be really happy for all of this attention on him". You know, negative or positive, it's all attention. Since I've left, the whole "satan will attack you and get you and make you do and get involved in horrible things", has never happened. In fact I was more susceptible to "wrongdoing" as an active jw! Like I said, you get in your life what you focus on. Satan, or I would say bad energy, is out there and if you talk about it and give it enough attention it will show up in your life. That's all it is to me, bad energy. No wonder jw's are sick and sad and depressed and stressed. Think of all the good energy that could flow through these people by talking about positive things at their conventions like the love Jesus had and the enlightened message he tried to share. I'll bet those people would walk out of a convention in a whole different frame of mind! But they have to scare them to keep them there.................wf

Don't want to celebrate holidays even with my daughter...

i feel like its so much work, stressful, commercialized and since i never formed the habit of it i hate the idea of celebrating them.

i wouldn't mind buying presents for my daughter on christmas and maybe doing a treasure hunt for halloween (i don't want her taking candy from even my neighbors) and things like that so she doesn't feel left out or like she's missing something.

just something easy and informal...

I feel the same way as you do about holidays. I could handle thanksgiving, after all it's just a meal with family. I could maybe handle going to a x-mas or Halloween party. But as far as getting really involved I just don't have that desire, like you said, to commercial. I like the 4th of July because of parades and cook-outs and the fact that's it's summer at the lake. And I also enjoyed doing a b-day something for my kids this year. But, I'm just not looking at jumping into all that either. And surprisingly, neither are my kids. I'm not so sure people who do the holidays are all that excited about it either especially with the bad economy. Just my thoughts on it.........wf
