Can't wait to hear the rest of the story. My kids are the reason I'm officially out too. Things that happened to my son just sent me over the edge. I too at one time felt so depressed and suicidal. Thankfully with some really good therapy I came out of that. But it's very different to hear from a child their experience at the meetings. As adults we stopped "listening" a long time ago and just kind of go through the robotic motions. But kids, when they are old enough to really hear what's being said, hear it in a whole new way. I remember my daughter telling me (much later) that at one of the meetings the PO from the platform said that people who aren't jw's are going to die at Armageddon. She said that affected her so much that she came home and cried but didn't want to talk to me about it, out of fear of course of saying anything, god forbid, against the meeting. It broke my heart and for the first time I started really listening again at the meetings and convention as to how a child might hear this crap. The last thing my kids and I went to, son 17, daughter 12, was a circuit assembly. We were all listening with our ears wide open, me for the first time in years. We all looked at each other and shook our heads in disbelief. (The whole thing was about Satan). I thought "how scary for these poor kids here." It opened my eyes, we left, and haven't been back to any of it since. You are a good dad to get your kids out of this mess now.

The effect of this religion on my children & the action I had to take - Part I
by jambon1 ini have been meaning to tell this story for some time now.
i feel that i would like to share it so that it may serve as a warning to anyone who thinks that the jw religion does not have a negative effect on children.. i have been out of the religion for 4 years now.
i wasn't brought up in the organisation.

Are you a stay at home mom, working woman with or with out children or a combination of both?
by restrangled ini am asking this based on sd-7's posts and am curious what you consider fair as far as house upkeep in the position you are in.. i was raised in the 60/70 decades from parents married in the 1950's so i seem to have a pretty old fashioned idea of what "housewife" means.. when i was working i had no tolerance for any slop habits, but since i'm home i don't require much.. so what are your ideals, how does your home operate?

That is soooo true.! I can make my bi-anual potato soup & corn bread and I am the man!
"Bi-anual" makes it that much more special, your playing your cards right!! In my house I get Chili once in a while and it's super good! Haven't had potato soup in forever though.

I do have a rule though: even though I love to mow the grass, I wont do it because I have a husband and a teenage son and it just feels weird for me to do that kind of work when they are here. I wont cook on the grill either, I feel like that's a guy thing. I also don't clean the cars or even put gas in my car, I feel like that's a guy thing to. I'm weird like that I guess. Gotta give them something to do for ya! But when he would be gone for 6 months at a time, then I had to do it all, whatever my son didn't do. I just like to see guys do certain things like the yard and grilling and I love the idea of weekend breakfasts TM! And how come all guys know how to make at least one great thing and when they cook it their the King of the World for the day? But we can cook all week long? I love cooking though and always do.

Ok, here's my take. If a woman is at home (no job outside the home) then she should take care of the house. That might sound old fashion but for the 10 years I was at home with my kids, I took great pride in my home and kids and absolutely never expected anything out of my husband in the house. That didn't mean he didn't pitch in and do things though. And he isn't a slob either. For both parents working outside the home, then yeah, you have to divide some of that stuff up, it's just to hard on a mom/wife. But for a woman to be home all day, no job, and the house be a mess, I don't get it. You know , in the 50's, woman were at home with there kids and their house and their gardens and their sewing machines. Now I know times have changed but woman today consider those things a hobby or therapeutic now, they consider that down time! I work outside of the home part time, go to school part time and take care of a 13 year old daughter, but have never once complained about taking care of the house. I like it!
As for Sd-7's situation, no offense, but he needs to let her go for several different reasons. I don't know why he puts up with all of this crap.

by YoursChelbie inis there anyone besides me who would like to get a group together for dinner, maybe at a local tgi fridays?.
there's some faces i would really like to meet again.. i don't think that here in the dallas/north texas area, we've had a gathering in a while.. so if you have any suggestions for a particular day?
we could see when it would be convenient for most people.

Wow, lots of people! This will be fun. And for those that live farther out, please consider making the trip. 4pm on Sat. the 19th works for me. I may be getting a room to stay the night, don't want to drive anywhere after drinking, especially if it gets late. Hey Chelbie, maybe Billy Bobs after for anyone?? Even if you don't like country to much, it's an awesome place to hang out and have fun. Lot's of room for different things to. And it will be summer so being outside at all wont be a problem either.

This is just a thought. I know around here on the weekend it's super hard to get into anything without a long wait if you want anything in the evening time and even harder if you have a crowd. I was wondering if it might not be better to meet during an afternoon for better chances at fitting a crowd somewhere. And if that's the case, Saturday would be better of course for those that don't work on Sat. I don't know about Dallas and the crowd, but we might want to think about that. At least if your in already somewhere earlier, staying late wont be a problem if it turns out like that. Just an idea.

The Pagan Christ
by poopsiecakes inhas anyone read this book?
i haven't, but i just watched a documentary on it.
the author's premise is that the idea of jesus as a god coming to earth came out of egyptian mythology and that there is no real archeological evidence that jesus actually existed.

So what is the goal here then? To prove or not prove Jesus existed, or to get people to admire and follow Jesus lifestyle regardless? You have to think way outside the box here people. Underneath beliefs and any written word is the essence of who we are, who Jesus was or represented. If you are still caught up it beliefs and titles and organizations of any sort, then your part of this journey back to our essence is still on going. There's nothing wrong with that btw. But when I read these comments it always comes back to a belief or a title and that means people are still not getting it. HOWEVER, I recognize that that is the subject of this thread, I'm just throwing my two cents in there.
