I had a date with a Seventh Day Adventist, was interesting to compare childhood traumas. The best was her stories about the day she let the JW's in the house and her Dad whipped out his bible and had a "discussion". I told her imagine having to dress up like a funeral director and walk around with the dubs... I got a sympathy kiss out of it... LOL

Losing the war on Facebook
by Brocephus inok this is weird i am noticing more and more jw's on facebook.
even an elder i know has started an account.
at first it seemed like it was just the "spiritually weak" who really don't care or do much field service.

How long will it be before the Borg launches their own social networking site? That would be the logical thing and then they could tell everyone to shutdown their facebook accounts because the faithful and discreet slave had lovingly provided a way for Jehovah's people to stay in touch.

Ok this is weird I am noticing more and more JW's on Facebook. Even an Elder I know has started an account. At first it seemed like it was just the "spiritually weak" who really don't care or do much field service. Now it is seems other more stonger JW's are joining Face book. I ask them about it and they are like...well I just want to stay in touch with Family or someother excuse... Anyone else noticing any trending?

Does anyone know about JW's in Africa
by Brocephus ini am seriously considering taking a leave of absence to travel to east africa, kenya, sudan or maybe tanzania.
i may be there volunteering with a secular organization or with a non-denomination christian ministry.
i got my story down here pat, raised a jw, told other christians evil hypocrites out for my blood, wandered the earth ingesting every drug i could find, had a moment and realized most christians are just like anyone else doing the best they can.

My question is do the JW's enjoy a better perception in Africa generally than here. Are the JW's considered like a Baptist or Methodist is here? Just kind of a different part of the chrisitian community or are they considered as being kind of out there like they are here?
Thanks Maputo for the info, can I ask did you go to East Africa at all?
Thanks Purps for the letter interesting.

I got my story down here pat, raised a JW, told other christians evil hypocrites out for my blood, wandered the earth ingesting every drug I could find, had a moment and realized most Christians are just like anyone else doing the best they can. Maybe I am too self concious but it's a good way to consendence my experience down for my fellow christians. What I don't know is would that seem harsh in Africa. Do the JW's get more respect there? Are they more laid back or harsher there. I get the impression they may just be another denomination in Africa not quite the self-righteous pricks they are here?
So my question is, can anyone here give me info on how the JW's interact with the Christian community in any of these countries. I am wondering if mentioning my JW background will be a plus or negative. On the plus I was very aware of what happened in Burundi and Rwanda in the 90's. On the negative if they are as "wheels off" there as they are here?
Your thoughts appreciated.

I have a touchy situation...could use some advice
by tenyearsafter ini just got an e-mail from my 80 year old mother asking my wife and i to join her for the memorial this year.
i really don't want to go, but i am also trying to maintain some degree of a relationship with her.
she is breaking the "rules" by not shunning me, but i don't know how she will react if i reject her invitation.

Do you think Roethlesberger would be suspended if he was black?
by UnConfused inhttp://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-goodell-roethlisberger&prov=ap&type=lgns.
pacman jones was never charged with a crime, yet was suspended for a year and then more i believe.
i'm not defending the actions of jones, but based on those standards big ben has now been accused twice of sexual assult.

Would the police hurry up and charge him or drop the thing. I don't see the hold up!
