Holding a blood card means not too much. For many JWs, it's not the reality. They don't even think about it.
I never once thought about the ramnifications of a blood card until I had kids.....boy was I blind.
i think most are not.
i think most do what they must simply to continue their social and family life..

Based on the 4 congs that I've been in I'd agree with Outlaw as well....15-20%. Although we do get a lot of flak for having a mortgage. We are just one of two families that own a home everyone else rents or lives with parents.
there have been a number of developments over the past few months and they paint an interesting picture.. witnesses can keep dragging themselves to meetings ad infinitum however, the future of the watchtower itself is another story.
the evidence of continuing cash flow problems is now overwhelming.
if you talk to well placed witnesses, most won't deny it but simply blame it on the publishers financial problems.. they have cut off loans to congregations many of whom genuinely need new kingdom halls.
I think what would hit the WTS the hardest is if government started treating them like the corporation they are and started taxing them. I thought I heard they were trying to do that in France, but if it were done in the US at headquarters it would cripple them. Not only that, but if someone can prove they are not and never were a non-profit organization, the government can collect back taxes for previous years as well. That would do it for sure.
i know of a few others.

There was an awake article that gave the experience of Tom Edur, a hockey player from the 70's. The article made it sound like he was a star and he left a prosperous hockey career to be a witness. He was quoted as saying he left because he didn't like the violence. I looked up his stats.......he sucked!!
hi, everyone, just wanted to say hi to y'all.
i've been lurking for a long time... .
i only wished i had visited sites like these before!
Oh forgot to mention that underground parking was off limits for the ordinary publishers like us.

Hi Finch and Weston, welcome. The conventions were a big eye opener for me as well. All the warnings for brothers on the low end of the toadem pole not to save seats and telling us how unloving it was to do so. Then a family with 2 or 3 kids and about 100lbs of baggage had to climb 4 flights of stairs to finally find some seats(unless, as you said, you wanted to take your chances in the stampede).Meanwhile you see all the bigshots (CO's, bethelites etc) who are obviously allowed to enter the facility before the doors open with the choice seating, some even sitting in the private boxes pretending to carry out some administrative function.
One year as we were walking back to our car, we were crossing the driveway that led to the underground parking. We were in a crowd of about 25-30 people. An attendant jumped in front of the crowd and stopped pedestrian traffic so cars can exit the garage. 3 cars exited the garage, 1 of them was a CO and the last car was the DO, I didn't recognize the guy in the middle, but I can be sure he ranked just as high as the other 2. These guys try to tell us that there is no rank among the Witnesses......bull!
not sure if anyone else has heard, but here in the portuguese district that covers southern ontario and montreal had their convention cut from 3 days to 2 days.
when it was announced they told the congregation that they would be getting the same program in 2 days......but weeks later they were told that they could not take part in the invitation campaign because the theme of the public talk was printed on the flyer and they were not having a public talk.
does anyone know the reason why they would do this to just this one group?
Sorry Heaven I was posting while you sent yours, thanks for the tip as well.

Thank you cattails on the PM
Not sure if they will fade the port congs anytime soon, but at the very least I think they are looking to eliminate their assemblies and conventions. I think this year was a test to see how many would attend an english assembly instead. In fact I know many who have done just that......idiots. My mother-in law said she would ask her CO as to why they cut back, I will update you with his response.
BTW lilyflor that's how I met my wife as well....maybe holy spirit was directing it....lol!!

I forgot to ask.....I'm new here, what is a PM?

Not sure how wide spread it was but at least in southern Ontario, in the mid 90's all the portuguese congregations were shut down. All the brothers and sisters were told to attend the english congregation in their territory. I remember because several were sent to my congregation. Many of them didn't speak a stitch of english. They would just sit there at the meetings with this blank look on their face nodding along at what the brother on the platform was saying, wondering what the portuguese had done to be punished by Jehovah.
Then a few years later the society noticed a lot of the portuguese brothers were pissed off and leaving "the truth", so they reinstated a few of the congregations but not all. When many of the ones that left never came back, rumors started circulating that this was Jehovah's way of cleansing the Portuguese congregations and rid them of the unfaithfuls. Unfortunately for them however, many, especially the younger ones remained in the english and now they are left with an aging, dwindling group, who would never complain no matter what you take away from them, or ask them to do.
Sorry if you were looking for more cattails, but I don't know many of the facts myself, I'm just going by how I saw it.
