I totally saw the connection when I saw the movie. I pieced it together right away. It is so true. I have even used the analogy to my friends when I describe the org.

Thriller Movie "The Village" must be based on Jehovah's Witnesses!
by Witness 007 inm. shamalan's movie deals with a village of "amish" type people who are too scared to venture outside the village since their "elders' tell them the forrest is full of demons.
they refuse to be "part of the world" and all medical care.
it turns out the village is in a nature preserve in the 20th century but the elders had bad experiences in the world and made up the demons to scare the young villagers into never leaving!

snowbird: That is stunningly sick, yet I do not doubt it for a second. Isn't it horrible that they could be so arrogant? I am certain Jesus did not treat people so poorly. The service meeting in general bothered me. I hated the "Local Needs" part which seemed to be a perfectly designed witch hunt.

Wow, lotsa strange posts on here.
I am going to say that for me there were many "signs" that I was somewhere I didn't belong. I had lived in a mobile home while looking for a permanant home, and had a pioneer sister talk about "trailer trash" people who live in mobile homes. I told her that it was a nasty stereotype. That same day she downgraded people who shop at WalMart as trashy and dumpy. And she knocks on doors preaching? What if the person behind that door was living a mobile home wearing WalMart clothes? Does that make them unworthy of the good news?a judicial
I was sitting in the Khall in a long black denim skirt (no slit) when they announced that denim was inappropriate in any form. Can I slide under a rock?
Sitting in judicial meeting with elders dealing me my new fate as a sinner. One elder said "If you were my wife, I would never take you back".
A few months later I took an Ethics class in college. It opened my eyes to new concepts.

We're diverse. There is a mix of all relgions/athiests/agnostics/spiritual - most of us have the common denominator of being an exjw and we "get" each other from the word go....depsite all the differences.
I think this quote by Loubelle hits it dead on. We all have a common denominator. For me, I had been seeing a therapist that suggested that I find a website for recovering JW's. I have liked the chemistry of this board far more than the others.

Hypnotists..your thoughts please?
by vikesgirl101 inas part of my departure of the jw org, i attended a town festival, in which they had a hypnotist there entertaining.
it was hysterical and surreal to watch.
but there is a lingering stigma about hypnotists from jw's.

I don't think I ever knew who I wanted to be in the org. At school I would tell my friends that I wanted to celebrate my Bday. Inside our home, I led my family to believe I was fulfilled. When my own children were born, I tried to duplicate Christmas, by choosing a special day to spoil them. In retrospect that was assinine, since that is promoting indulgence and materialism. At least the "worldly people" glorfied Jesus too. I was just a wannabe. I still know many people that do this within the org.

I think I am to the point of I could care less what the elders think. I have shut the door in the face, I have told them "Thank you for calling me a whore", I have avoided all contact with them. I really would rather they would just DF me.
digderidoo : You bring up a good point about religion. If he chooses to bring the kids to another church, that would be none of my concern, unless it hurt the children in some way. For me, I have something that kids really want to do, and he is taking it away from them.
And hopefully you are all right; The court systmes will see him for who he is.

Busted! I am a Minnesotan. Thank goodness though. It appears the law is on my side.
