April 15th WT/ Generation - MORE Points/ Mind Control by WT Society
by flipper inwe all chewed on this article pretty well when the news first came out about the " overlapping anointed " concept , however we discussed so much on just those 2 paragraphs dealing with the new " generation " theory - that almost the rest of the article was overlooked .
our lurking inactive jw friend on the board sent us a copy of the april 15th.
i think you folks may find this interesting.. on pg.

I Went Back To the Kingdom Hall
by Clint Bussey inlast year i went back to the hall while even though i was disfellowsipped 9 years ago and never intend to get reinstated.
i went back to talk to all my friends and relatives and blantantly ignore the disfellowshipping policy.
i chose to go to my jw parents hall where they are in "good standing" and regularly attend meetings as they ingnore their son.

Clint, I admire you for what you did! I don't think I could stomach going into a Kingdom Hall again, though. I do have some family who attend the local Kingdom Hall, but I'm afraid they'd get the wrong idea if I showed up at a meeting and think I had a spark of interest in returning. Talk about the preaching that I might possibly get from my sister! Aach! However, I think I couldn't handle going into a Kingdom Hall again for any reason. it would feel toxic to me.

I agree that the door to door method is not nearly as effective as using the media would be. It seems so archaic (right word?) to go from house to house in these days of awesome technology. Maybe the WTBTS just wants to keep the 'rank and file' busy or something - - wasting time in field work. That way the JWs are kept under control. Of course, I don't really know why the Witnesses are so persistent in going door to door. I can only guess, myself. However, going house to house seems basically so ineffectual. The religion does get recruits, but enough to keep the poor JWs constantly pursuing them door to door? What a waste of time!

How do you handle JW encounters?
by Girlie inso this past saturday, i stopped over at my parents' home to take care of some business.
as my brother dropped me off in front of the house, lo and behold, the witnesses from my previous congregation were parked right in front of my parents' home.
damn..... they were in a car group working a frequent rv who lives next door to my folks.

Does Anyone Miss Being In The Jehovah's Witness Cult?
by minimus ini saw 6 jw zombies walking up a hill near where i live the other day.
they all were dressed nicely.
they walked together in twos.

I agree, Minimus. Your question is a good one. Even though I have been out of the Witnesses for over twenty years I feel a sense of relief at being out of the cult. JDHF, how long have you been out? When I first got out I think I may have felt a void, but now I am just so happy to be away from that religion there is no sense of emptiness at all. I remember when I was a JW someone asking where else was there to go. Now I believe Jesus the Christ is where to go. I don't attend any church at all. As far as choosing a church goes, I have no idea where to go. I'm not comfortable in a church, anyway, not because of bad memories of being in Kingdom Halls, but because I just haven't found a church that feels right to me. However, I know that Jesus is there, and I can always go to Him. He is the only mediator between God, our Heavenly Father, and humankind, so I know He is where to go. I hope I don't sound 'preachy'! I am just trying to say how I feel personally. Everyone here has his/her own path to follow on his/her spiritual journey, and everyone needs to be true to oneself. JDHF, I hope that you eventually (SOON, I hope!) no longer feel that void, that you can fill it with what is meaningful to you, that you will be happy! I, myself, feel certainty in my life, not because I know anything in particular, but because I believe things will happen in God's time according to His plan. I guess faith in that and in Jesus is what counts to me. I find fulfillment in that. I wish everyone here the best and true happiness.

No way do I miss beind in the Jehovah's Witnesses cult! However, I dearly miss my sister and other family members who are JWs. Also, there were some really cool people whom I remember with fondness. But, no, I cannot say that I miss being in the Jehovah's Witnesses!

"Fancy Dress" and large social gatherings are banned in our Halls! Why?
by Witness 007 inyes we hosted the ultimate "fancy dress" party.
some did come as cowboys with guns {cringe} pirates with swords {cringe} and a male servant/pioneer came as a female balerina {oh my god nearly got deleted!
} but what's the big deal!

Well, to me, the "leaders" of the Jehovah's Witnesses seem very negative, pessimistic, and distrustful of the "rank and file". They are like very overly strict parents. The slide show is beautiful and shows young people having clean, wholesome enjoyment! The WTBTS needs to loosen up and let young people be young people - - needs to let people be people, period. They are being silly about social gatherings! They are repressing the congregations with far fetched restrictions and rules. Yes, they need to lighten up!

Elder uses Congregation Bible Study as an opportunity to ban the movie Avatar
by easyreader1970 inlast night, during the congregation bible study, the conductor (overseer?
) used this as a platform to say that the movie avatar is of satan and no christians should see it.. .
he said that he googled the (original) meaning of the word avatar and it was of hindu religious origin.

Bugs Bunny???!!! Oh, for Pete's sake!! I haven't seen Avatar, but from what I gather with the previews, it is just a fun fantasy that has nothing to do with Satan. That thinking is bizarre! I remember when 'The Exorcist' was out in the seventies, I think, JWs were warned against seeing it. Well, it's not a movie I'd want to see, anyway - - too creepy. However, I think people should be able to make mature decisions about things like this on their own, based on their personal consciences. People can think for themselves! They shouldn't be dictated to by the WTBTS. JWs need more leeway to think for themselves and make their own choices based on their own consciences.

when is the memorial this year? and will you be going?
by highdose ini won't be going if i can help it, but id like a heads up about it, just to be forewarned.

I haven't been to a Memorial in over twenty years and will never go to one again. Anyway, I believe Jesus died for all humankind and therefore everyone should be able to partake in the emblems. Everyone.

Jevovah's Witnesses and mental health
by bubba flavel indoes anyone know if the society has specific policies on the handling of members with mental health problems?.
my grandfather, a brother in good standing since moses developed paranoid schizophrenia in his later years.
he got to the stage where he would knock people over in the street, place his hand on thier head and cast out evil spirits in the name of jehovah.. he was disfellowshiped and not long after he passed away.. this was related to me by a friend years later as i was unaware due to the shunning, i didn't even know he died.

As someone with a chemical brain disorder I take meds (Paxil, for one), which really help. I quit taking Depakote without consulting my psychiatrist. I'm very glad I stopped taking it, because it turns out that it was responsible for serious tremors I was having. People noticed how shaky my hands were. I'm really glad I quit taking it! I was a JW for approximately ten years. Toward the end I started feeling depressed. I don't think I could ever set foot in a Kingdom Hall again for any reason. Too toxic. Elders don't know how to treat or deal with mental illness. They don't really understand it for one thing. They just aren't cut out to help people with mental health issues.
