Gah! It's so aggravating to read the replies from the JWs. The non-JWs supply facts and/or experiences, the JWs can only respond with ad hominem attacks.

Abercrombie "Banishes" Girl With Prosthetic Arm To Storeroom Because She Doesn't Fit The "Look Policy"
by Yizuman inby hortense, 3:45 pm on sat jun 13 2009, 65,186 views copy this whole post to another site.
slurpcancel </form></form> google_ad_section_start just in case their racism, sexism, and general awfulness hasn't been enough to turn you away from abercrombie & fitch after all these years, here's another glimpse of the inner workings of the horrible store.. when i previously (and gleefully) wrote about the economic troubles that abercrombie was having a few months back, i mentioned that my personal hatred for the store comes from the fact that one of the women i was in the intensive inpatient unit with during my treatment for anorexia was heavily recruited by the store just days before her hospitalization (she was incredibly underweight) because she had "the look" they wanted.
turns out that this horrific "look policy" doesn't just revolve around being stick-thin; according to riam dean, she was forced to work in the stockroom, as opposed to on the floor, at abercrombie's london flagship store because her prosthetic arm didn't fit the company's attractiveness standards.

Unfairly forcing employees to buy clothes? Reminds me of Sunday's Dilbert.

Just who or what am I mad at ?
by The Berean into be sure, i have waisted decades of productivity due to a great extent to the control of a religious phantom force.
but who am i actually upset at?.
a) am i upset at some supreme being with a textbook case of sadistic personality disorder who has constructed this spinning funhouse for his/her own entertainment?.

You may be mad at all of the above. And anger is an emotion you own so no one has the right to tell you what you should do with it or whether or not you should hold on to it. I think the better question here is: what do you want?
Bearing in mind that you cannot alter the past, moving on from this point, what do you want your life to be like? Do you want to harness your anger and try to change what the JWs are doing? Do you want to forget about them completely and pretend they never existed? Something in between? What option would be most satisfying to you in the context of the rest of your life?

Finding a new (real life) community
by bluecanary inspeaking to ex-jws, many of you have joined another form of christianity and no doubt found fellowship in a church.
for those that are no longer christians, have you found another community of people (in person, not online)?.
i am extremely introverted.

Speaking to ex-JWs, many of you have joined another form of Christianity and no doubt found fellowship in a church. For those that are no longer Christians, have you found another community of people (in person, not online)?
I am extremely introverted. It takes me a great deal of energy to be around people, but I do get some benefit from it and like to think others benefit from my company as well. As a Witness I hated meetings and field service but was regular because I believed in it. This forced me to be around people and have a community to draw upon for companionship.
Now, being in a relatively new town, and being so introverted, I'm having trouble finding a group to belong to. I do practice a sort of agnostic Buddhism but there's not much of a Buddhist following where I am. I don't have any hobbies that I follow rigorously enough to be interested in for more than a week or two.
So I'm just looking for inspiration. Where do you turn to for a sense of community now? -

Sheep vs Goats....Translation Says "Unicorn"
by cameo-d in"the word unicorn appears nine times in the king james version of the bible.. .
in more modern editions, these instances have mostly been changed to aurochs (a type of wild ox) or goat.
the unicorn first appeared in the bible in an edition called the septuagint, which was an attempt by a group of scholars in alexandria around 300-100 b.c.

I don't know the liklihood of such a thing, but I certainly appreciate the sentiment.

Without pain could any God exist?
by The Berean inif our world was a paradise with no sickness, pain, or death, would anyone have ever considered the concept of a supreme being?
who would care how we got here?
would not eternity be taken for granted?.

I'll go you one further. Without a universe could God exist? How could he have a concept of himself without the existence of anything else? "God is good." Compared to what? "God is love." In contrast to what? What could he possibly think about if nothing else existed and how could he even think of himself if there was nothing to distinguish his "self" from?

The Watchtower Didn't Make Me An Atheist
by B_Deserter inive posted on this before, but i figured i should lay my thoughts out again on the subject.
there are some in the ex-jw community who are saddened because the watchtower organization has turned me and others like me off to god.
the watchtower attacks and debunks other religions on a regular basis, often giving us the sense that if the watchtower is wrong, then there cant be a god.

If I had been part of a community of ex-JWs when I left, I may have studied other forms of Christianity more and found one of them acceptable. However I did not seek out others experiences immediately. Rather, I meditated upon my own experiences, and since it was no longer taboo, this led to questioning the liklihood of a God altogether and I came to the conclusion that it's so improbable as to be not worth my time.
So you could say that while leaving the WTS was the catalyst for my atheism, it is not the direct reason.

bad experiences with C.O.s?
by startingovernow ini am still trying to recover from an experience that i had with a c.o.
reading other discussions has helped me to start getting other bad experiences into a better perspective and since the experience with the c.o.
was really the final straw i was hoping that reading that i am not alone would help me in moving on.

My mother was separated from her husband after finding out that (1) he had an emotional affair with another woman and (2) he had molested me for years. She was finding it very difficult to be celibate after 15 years of marriage. So she spoke the the C.O. (Haig, I don't remember the first name), asking for guidance on how to maintain her chastity since she had no grounds for remarrying. He was very blunt. Go back to your husband. He says this right in front of me with no regard for what the guy did to me. And he had no concern for the fact that her husband didn't even want her back!
Amazingly it took another 6 years and more nasty, stupid comments from a variety of elders before we finally realized this wasn't God's religion.

Got stopped by the Mormons today, very annoyed
by callitquits76 inhi.. i got caught offguard by the mormons today whilst out walking my dogs.
there were two of them and one called out to me and mentioned something about talking to other people about christ, so i immediately told them i did not agree with them at all and didn't trust any group who suggest theyy are 'the one'.. i spoke for around 20 minutes because i didnt want them to think i was running away through lack of education, and i went over things like how much you can trust joseph smith since he was a raving mason etc and how i thought it was a religion by men for men, but this mormon guy was really smug and basically just answered with a smug nod of his head and replied 'we've prayed to god and he's told us the way to live is the mormon church'.
this was really a cop out and he couldn't answer much, particularly concerning the need for the book of mormon and he knew very little scripture indeed.. the other mormon seemed much nicer and was from germany - a lot more respectful.. but what really got me annoyed was my inability to argue decent points and found myself nodding along trying desperately to think of a counter argument but none came.

You should bring up the fact that Mormons believe the USA is God's chosen nation. That makes Mormons from other countries very uncomfortable.
