my jw elder friend said to me that the nwt is the best translation of the bible and that scholars have said as much.

is this true and is it the best?

are there scholars who disagree?.

i think that my upbringing made me the person that i am today---for good and bad.

even though i was raised a witness, i don't think that my upbringing was bad.. your thoughts, please..

I was never accepted by the true-believer dubs (only tolerated), I wasn't cool enough for the teen dubs living double lives (they avoided me like the plague) and just forget about the guys and the gals at school. Being an outsider in all worlds stunted my making real friendships, going through all the ups and downs of trying to strike up relationships (intimate or otherwise).

Midget-Sasquatch, your experience sounds a lot like mine.

most jw's have heard the title, "watchtower bible and tract society" many more times than they could possibly count.. i suspect that very few actually understand the significance of this term as it relates to their organization.

they really did start out as a society rather than a religion.

--that is to say, a largely non-denominational, loose-knit, democratic society of bible students.

As a JW I believed that any two witnesses ought to be able to make a marriage work. What more could you need in common than following the teachings of the WTBS? How could you not love someone that loved Jehovah, right?

I think my divorce speaks for itself.

Summary: "... it can be said that the NW emerges as the most accurate of the translations compared...the translators managed to produce works relatively more accurate and less biased than the translations produced by multi-denominational teams, as well as those produced by single individuals." "Jehovah's Witnesses... really sought to re-invent Christianity from scratch... building their system of belief and practice from the raw material of the Bible without predetermining what was to be found there.

Some critics, of course, would say that the results of this practice can be naive. But for Bible translation, at least, it has meant a fresh approach to the text, with far less presumption than that found in may of the Protestant translations."

There are other JW apologist here. Posters like Spike and Ernest involve themselves in discussions and debates all the time. Why is it that Reniaa is so strongly disliked? Not because of her opinions, but because of the way she tries to provoke. No one kicked her off of the board. She left of her own accord. Ex-JW posters have left for the same reasons she did; claiming they were being picked on. If you want to play nice and be respectful of others you can make your opinions known, whatver they be. But if you poke someone with a needle, they're going to scream and probably smack you.

I feel very stunted now, because I spent my entire youth and early twenties immersed in the org. I was taught to focus on The Truth tm to the exclusion of all else and now I'm left with nothing to fall back on. I have to figure out who I am from scratch.
