daniel, I wasn't aware that a man's hair could be too short. Do they not have bald elders where you come from?

Getting Offended: A Method of Control
by daniel-p ini was always frustrated with how much counsel and advice was given at the kingdom hall on how not to offend others.
it seemed like complete immunity was given to the person getting offended.
they were never counselled to just mind their own business, but if anyone had any reason to be offended about something you had done, the elders, or that person, would be sure to let you know about it.. most of the time it was nobody's business.

"I love you man!" - as he hugs everyone.
by dissed inas a newbie here, only having discovered this site a few days ago, i wanted to share with you my early observations and impressions.. being out of touch with the witnesses the last 13 years, i didn't realize sites like this existed.. my thinking was all apostate sites were places of doctrinal discussions on the trinity, hellfire, etc... with bitter x-jw's ranting 24/7.
so i was never excited about allowing more controversy to my life nor visiting such sites.. this is different.. what i'm noticing is that most here seem to be well versed in witness doctrine, much more so than the visiting jw's.
perhaps there is a protection for the wts in keeping people ignorant?.

Wierd District Convention experience Pioneer/Elder claim disapointment he's still not a C.O???
by Witness 007 inmelbourne australia district convention last saturday this jackass pioneer/elder gets on stage and relates how he and his wife have served where the need is great in many congs hoping for the "privledge" of being a c.o couple....he expressed "disapointment and discouragement" when he was not appointed....he moved to a new assignment in the chinese cong.. the speaker thanks him for his "honesty" but i was thinking what are his motives for serving his brothers?
is this a good example for pioneering?
must be a reason his ambition...... sorry i mean, goals could not be reached.

I confess that I don't share your impressions of this man's ambitions, 007. The witnesses are constatnly encouraged to "reach out" and it's natural to set goals and have ambitions. It's possible for someone to see the position of CO as one where they have a greater opportunity to help others. Your read of the situation may be correct, but it's not a given. One of the best COs (and coolest people) I've ever known didn't want to be a CO, he wanted to be a missionary but they made him be CO.
I have heard some weirdly discouraging examples, particularly when I was in pioneer school. We were told about a brother who was at bethel. He wanted to get married but they wouldn't allow his intended at bethel so he left to marry her. They went to a regular congregation together but the whole congregation snubbed them; no one would talk to them or allow them to comment at meetings. They pioneered, working only by themselves. They had done nothing wrong, but sometimes the congregation gets it wrong.
That was the experience given by a CO at my pioneer school. I guess he wanted to prepare us for the sad truth that we might be persecuted even by the congregation. Funny thing is, I was only ever persecuted by the congregation--multiple congregations at that.

The Gospel is in the fifth chapter of Genesis :)
by Chalam ini make no claim to discovering this.
i heard chuck missler mention it (i recommend his "the bible in 24 hours" book or dvd by the way).. .
anyhow, the gospel of salvation is within the meaning of the hebrew names which make up the family tree of noah.. .

That's cool. While I don't put belief in hidden meanings, I sure enjoy them.

Why is it that JWs can toss around insults like "Worldly" when talking about non-JWs? (Fiancee got offended).
by SnakesInTheTower inso yesterday i get this telephone call from a jw sister.
let's call her sister naive.
i knew sister naive when she was a teenager, knew her ex-husband when he and i were growing up in the congo.

I can identify with this woman. It used to piss me off that (a) there were more women than men in the JWs, (b) women could only receive certain privileges if they were married (c) most of them wanted nothing more than love and companionship and (d) so many men went and took wives outside of the b0rg.
Now that I'm out, I can see why they did that. Half the witness girls I knew wouldn't even have sex after they were married. But at the time it was very frustrating that our (the women's) choices were so limited and the men were snubbing us for other women, leaving us single and lonely. This especially holds true for women in their late thirties and up.

Agnostic Christianism
by AK - Jeff inby definition, an agnostic is, well, agnostic about his belief in god.
he doubts, or maybe he just wonders.
but he is not a solid believer.

But church is NOT for everyone.
Yeah, I went to the UU church once. It was nice. But I am too, too introverted to enjoy leaving the house and sitting with a crowd of people for anything less than a Jeff Dunham performance.

When I was ten I went to the door with a peer. A girl half my age answered the door. While I was speaking to her, a doberman bigger than I was kept trying to push past her. He finally got out and I had time to hear her say, "Be careful, he bites," before we hightailed it back to the car.

You already being DF'd is an important detail. In that case, you can still try to talk to the elders, but like civic said, they are trained not to listen to you or answer any questions. I would only do it if I thought my family would witness it and come to see how manipulative and ignorant the elders are.
This thread has my questions and the accompanying research.
I recommend teaching your son to recognize logical fallacies. Make a game of it. Offer to pay him a dollar for each one he finds. It could save his life.
