angel eyes, I know that you’re aware of my post because I sent it to you in a pm. Why is it that you’ve chosen not to respond? If the information I posted is incorrect or my reasoning faulty, by all means, point out the particular fallacies. You continue to post messages about how much you love Jah and his organization, yet you cannot defend them before this critique? It doesn’t make you look good and it doesn’t make them look good.
If you could say something in their behalf, to defend them from the charges, you would. The fact that you haven’t indicates that you cannot. And if you cannot defend them against charges of blood guilt and organizational lack of love, then why on earth are you promoting them?

I need some assistance!
by lepermessiah ini have been posting on here this week, and all i can say is this has been the best form of therapy!
there are some amazing people on here, many who have been through the same thing, if not much worse.
there are so many of you that i would love to converse with, but understand why this format is for the best at this time.. i am in the early stages of breaking the chains that bind, and i need some suggestions on reasoning on these 2 points.

EDIT: This stupid thing will not let me edit the format of this post. Meh.
Welcome lepermessiah!
You've probably already seen it, but check out this thread.
Unfortunately, those two questions are not in my body of research. I'm sure someone else can post some info. Based on what others have said about fading, I would recommend a sort of "It's not you--it's me" approach. Tell them you are emotionally exhausted, rather than mentioning doubts if you want a clean fade. I will offer you this quote from Ray Franz in Crisis of Conscious in regard to the Christian congregation:
“I believed that, whatever the arrangement, its purpose and function, its very existence, was only as an aid for the brothers; it was there to serve their interests, not the other way around. Whatever the arrangement, it was to build men and women up so that they would not be spiritual babes, dependent on men or on an institutionalized system, but able to act as full-grown, mature Christians. It was not to train them to be simply conformists to a set of organizational rules and regulations, but to help them become persons “having their perceptive powers trained to distinguish both right and wrong.”

Here's a crazy idea: individuals either care for the environment or not, regardless of their respective religious or non-religious motives to do either.

Does everyone else get this reaction from their JW family when discussing objections to the religion?
by jambon1 inwhen pointing out my objections to the jw religion with my wife, i have noticed a worrying trend which even after 3 or 4 years shows no sign of relenting.. after speaking calmly for an hour or so and logically pointing out my objections, my wife starts to put forward outrageous assertations about my points.
for instance, if i am refering to the fact that disfellowshipping is a form of extreem punishment & i mention the terrible effects that being d/f'd can have on people, she will eventually retort with something like "so what you are saying is that we should tolerate paedophiles, rapists & thieves in the organisation then?".
of course, i've never at any point said anything of the sort.. or if i have been overly critical of the amount of control the society wants over peoples lives, she would reply "so what you are saying is that we should all just go out & do what we want, get drunk & live an immoral life?

Show her the research you have done on logical fallacies: particularly the slippery slope.

Right now I'm mostly listening to anything that sounds like it could be featured on So You Think You Can Dance? I could listen to Black Eyed Peas "I got a feelin'" over and over again.

I need help in facing our abuser...
by cognac inthe thought of it scares me so much i can't even think straight... just writing this makes my heart race like you wouldn't believe.. i need to face my dad and mom.
my dad abused us, my mom allowed the abuse.
i need to face him with my two older brothers - the ones who got it the worst and who never faced them about it.... i know my mind will go blank so i'm simply going to write out what i have to say and read it to them.

I know my mind will go blank so I'm simply going to write out what I have to say and read it to them.
That's what I would have recommended. Some other resources:
http://www.pandys.org/articles/confrontingyourabuser.html
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_get_an_abuser_to_recognize_the_abuse_for_what_it_is
http://www.mcafee.cc/Bin/sb.html
Don't expect an explanation. Expect denial and accusing fingers turned back at you. Abuse often goes hand in hand with personality disorders (narcissism, sociopathy, etc) in which case the person isn't even capable of feeling remorse. If you're going to do this, do it because just saying it will make you feel better. Because more likely than not, their reaction isn't going to be a pleasant one.
Good luck to you.

Stephen, does that mean that he also didn't create the "god of this age" who has "blinded the minds of the unbelievers?" Is 2 Corinthians 4:4 referring to Satan or someone else? In any case it uses the term "god" so unless it's referring to someone in the Godhead, it would negate your argument. Set me straight, please.

"I love you man!" - as he hugs everyone.
by dissed inas a newbie here, only having discovered this site a few days ago, i wanted to share with you my early observations and impressions.. being out of touch with the witnesses the last 13 years, i didn't realize sites like this existed.. my thinking was all apostate sites were places of doctrinal discussions on the trinity, hellfire, etc... with bitter x-jw's ranting 24/7.
so i was never excited about allowing more controversy to my life nor visiting such sites.. this is different.. what i'm noticing is that most here seem to be well versed in witness doctrine, much more so than the visiting jw's.
perhaps there is a protection for the wts in keeping people ignorant?.

Resurrection of the dead, JWs and 1 Corinthians 15
by Chalam inhttp://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/181048/4/did-jesus-ever-claim-messiahship.
stephen, i really enjoy seeing different interpretations of the scriptures.
keep on doing what you do, man.. i want to know what you mean by your post.

Thanks for posting this Stephen. Those first couple of scriptures do seem to indicate that Jesus was raised in the flesh. It's one of those things I never put any thought into as a JW.
I'm confused about the rest of it. If Jesus wasn't raised in the flesh, that might be a killing blow to the teaching that humans will be resurrected to earth. But if you believe that the reward for all Christians is resurrection to heaven, what does it matter if Jesus was resurrected as a spirit? Being raised as a spirit doesn't seem to negate the prospect of others being raised as spirits. Or do I have an incorrect understanding of the heavenly hope?
Did the girl that Jesus raised go to heaven? Is there a waiting period where someone is "asleep" first? Did people not start going to heaven until Jesus died? Who is part of the second resurrection? Why is it split into different resurrections?
I'm totally lost on the firstborn thing It sounds like you're saying that when the Bible refers to Jesus as the firstborn, that is referring specifically to him being the first raised from the dead--but that doesn't make any sense because others were resurrected in the old testament. Unless he was the first resurrected to heaven. Can you clarify this, please?
If you had asked me if I was "in Christ" I would have given you a blank look and stammered out something about being followers of Christ. I was definitely ingrained with the feeling that all that touchy-feely Jesus stuff was . . . icky. We were told that Jesus was supposed to be our friend, but I didn't see how he could be. It's definitely interesting to see him in a new light.
