Following your heart not right according to JWs?
by cognac ini heard in a talk recently that following your heart was one of the worse advice a person can get.
is this because the bible says the heart is treacherous?.
anybody else hear that in jw land?.

I know it's getting old by now, but I'm a huge fan of Monty Python's Flying Circus. I've got all the DVDs.

This Fading Stuff is Tough!!
by lepermessiah inoverall my fade is going very well, but yesterday it really hit me that certain "milestones" are going to be more difficult than others.. i have basically gotten down to one meeting a week, wth no field service.. this despite the dreaded admonition "one week without field service makes one weak!
" (puke).
as i was on the way to the meeting yesterday, i was informed that i was assigned to read the wt.

You know what makes me mad here? That a guy like you that makes one meeting a week and no FS and you STILL get privileges. I worked my ass off for this #*@($! publishing company and I couldn't even friggin' comment! The double standard is unbelievable.

Human Animals?
by passwordprotected ininspired by this comment (post 16581 from satanus), i dug out a quote from richard dawkins;.
i wonder whether, some 60 years after hitler's death, we might at least venture to ask what the moral difference is between breeding for musical ability and forcing a child to take music lessons.
or why it is acceptable to train fast runners and high jumpers but not to breed them.

I was going to respond, but I realized I can't add anything to what Midget-Sasquatch already said.

My Aunt Tells My Mom NOT To Read A Book About A JW In Concentration Camp Because...
by minimus inthe witness evidently made money on his book and if it was an "approved" book, the society would be providing it free of charge.. i don't know who wrote the book but it's circulating around.
an elder's wife said she'd let my mother borrow the book if she wanted to.
when my mother yold her sister, my aunt strongly cautioned her as to the impropriety of it all.

I never read it but I know a bunch of JWs including elder's wives who did. Your aunt's argument is beyond ridiculous. Even if you believe that it's solely the Society's responsibility to publish spiritual material, this is an autobiography that belongs to the woman that lived it and no one else.

Welcome to the board zoiks! (I prefer your screen name to Paul.) Thanks for sharing your story. Even if you pull a long slow fade, I think it's best that you step down from positions of teaching and authority. Much happiness to you and your family.

Why Do people think they need A GOD to be good people?
by LucyA ini decided after much study and soul searching that i dont believe in god.
ive noticed recently (not on the forum but others) some people seem to think that if i dont believe in a god that im obviously morally bankrupt.
i dont feel this way as i give a portion of my income to charity and i have never set out to harm anyone else.

About this idea of being "GOOD" .... Are you Good JWfacts? How many convicts feel the same as you?
I don't know, I haven't done a poll. How many convicts think they are good?
How do you know if you are harming others or not?
How do you?
I find your questions to be odd.
I've heard people say that when they found God, they became better people. I've heard other say that when they decided God didn't exist, they became better people. It is my belief that it is the mental effort that goes into choosing a belief system that makes us apply ourselves to being better people.

The most inappropriate remarks from Jehovahs Witnesses
by jambon1 ini have a few which still either anger me, make me sad or just make me grateful that i am no longer one of them.
1 - "well, everyone is going to die anyway, so if it at armageddon then ce la vie" 2 - "the disater today at the world trade centre is sad, but exciting" 3 - (an elder) "when armageddon happens, i want to be at a window, watching it all".
sick, sick, sick!

Who Got Ink?
by passwordprotected inwho got a tattoo/tattoos after leaving the wts?.
how painful was it/were they?.
-
bluecanary
I have always known that I am too fickel for a tattoo. Anything I think I like enough to get permanently attached to me could change. Case in point, I though I would be a JW for life. I would love to do some henna. That lasts for a couple weeks, but most businesses won't let you have visible markings and I needs me a job.
