See, I think mustaches are evil. Beards aren't. Unless you are Spock.

Godly hair or ungodly hair ??
by caliber ini just recently grew a goatee mainly to balance off my face due to the thin hair on my head.. the style is similar to one of these... this scriptural idea is used to discourage jw's from growing facial hair.. except a mustache .... 1 peter 3:3 whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel.
4 but let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of god of great price.
what are your thoughts serious or humorous ???.

Everything About Being An Elder is Weird (my misc rambling memories of being an elder)
by AllTimeJeff infor any brother who is a jehovah's witness, the goal is put before them to reach out for the privilege of being an elder.
i can only speak for myself, but being born into the religion, i wanted to be an elder since i was 5. i would have much rather wanted to be a doctor or engineer, but those are the breaks..... i'll skip the part about what it takes to reach out, all the crap you have to put up with as a ministerial servant to get appointed, and go straight to the reality.. i know many elders who sincerely just wanted to be shepherds.
i did want the spotlight.

I would read your book, Jeff. It means a lot to read posts like these. Many of us have had really lousy experiences with elders like you. When someone hurts me, what I want most (more than hurting them in return) is just for them to get it. To understand what they did was wrong and to be sorry about it. It's cathartic for us to read posts like this.

Fear of God is like Fear of Ocean. Faulty analogy. Another brick falls.
by Open mind inif your posterior has spent at least a year in a kingdom hall you've probably heard the tired old justifying and watering down of the term "fear of jehovah".
'it's not a morbid dread of god.
it's like the wholesome respect we have for the power of the ocean.

No, I was shy and didn't have a lot of friends until high school but I wasn't really picked on either. A few times when being a JW got me out of some class assignment the other kids were jealous and wanted to claim it was against their religion, too. I was only treated badly by JWs.

Does anyone think that maybe we're just wrong?
by paul from cleveland ini was disfellowshipped in 1995. even though i lost my friends and family, i felt like i had been finally set free and was happy for many years.
while i was a jehovah's witness, i always felt so miserable.
i never felt like i was doing enough to please jehovah.

We also Had Shelkowski as DO. I do not know his first name and I don't know if I spelled his last name right. He stayed at our house when he visited. He was kind and had a good sense of humor. We played dominos with him and his wife.
Stephen Pulsipher was the other CO who taught my pioneer school with Rick White. Both were funny and fun-loving brothers. And much younger than our previous COs. I found out later that Pulsipher had done a circuit in Wisconsin not too far from where I moved to.

I've heard of Samuelson but I'm not sure if he was our CO or if I'm remembering the name from somewhere else. I'll have to ask my mother later. If he was our CO it would be when I was a kid.
