  first new topic for me.. i have observed this site for about 4 years.

  haven't been to a meeting since oct 2005. definitely feel jws are a high control group that mirrors many of the definitions of a cult.. i was raised as a witness since age 5, left at age 38, now 43. happily married to a wonderful woman for 24 years, except for 1 year of separation when i was failing miserable in a search for my true self - hard to do when you were completely sucked into this religion.

  yes, i was a true believer pretty much up into my late 30s.

  How fast can you "prepare" a Watchtower lesson?

  she was missing some meetings, but had to get to her first meeting of the month.

  she needed to turn her "time" in.

  How Many Here Were Turned Down For "Privileges" Because You Weren't "Exemplary"?

  our odd body of elders would not allow the one person who wanted to mow the lawn at the kingdom hall to do this because he was not getting 10 hours in a month, he was only getting in 7. seriously.. were you ever told you couldn't have a "privilege" because you didn't measure up to their lofty standards?.

  I would do the same. Parroting out of the paragraph to me was a worthless endeavor. (A parrot could to that!) I would comment from the heart and give answers that were pertinent to the subject but from my own perspective. I thought that was the whole idea.

  The PO who was the conductor didn't like that. He LOVED only comments that were directly from the paragraph. So he stopped calling on me. BTW I wasnt some goofball that gave of the wall comments. I was an elder at the time. But he just stopped calling on me.

  The bad news......after 20 yrs. he is STILL the WT conductor.

  I was 16. The elders gave "privilidges" to everyone including picking up the mail, except me. Seriously, every person got priviledges announced from the platform, except me. Wow. What a slam. I attended every meeting, went in service and did everything I could as a 16 yr old.

  With tears in my eyes, I drove to an elders home who studied with me and was my book study conductor. He was a wimp and weaseled out of any kind of reasonable explaination. I knew the decision was made by a "heavy" who didn't like me.

  Did anyone else find this article distressing???

  The thrust I got was that becoming a doctor is bad, worldly, selfish, etc. Becoming a pioneer is what a good Christian should strive for.

  Is that bizarre or what??

  Say what you want, that's the way it was presented here.

  HELP I need some ex-elders help for a phone conversation with my JW parents

  ok this is the deal: i was dfd 14 years ago, i was just planning to go back last year.

  i had planned to come back with a clean conscience so i started to study and research the wt to prove to myself this was the truth, the elders had met with me to suggest me to submit a letter of reinstatement, in the same meeting i told them i had some questions that i needed help with before i was to go back.

  they said they were gonna answer those questions after i was reinstated :-d so i went by myself and started doing my research.

  Look, the moment you begin your "intervention" by asking some of the above well intentioned questions, their apostate radar will go balistic and you will be busted forever. Don't for a minute think that you will get a listening ear.

  Face it, JW do not allow for independent thinking on spiritual matters. It's their way or the highway and the payback is severe.

  So if you want to have relations with your JW family from now on, keep your "independent thinking" to yourself and fake it. Otherwise you will be branded an apostate and they will shun you forever.

  Think twice about the "brave" advice given here by some who may not have family to lose.

  I dont like this any more than you but what I'm telling you is what will happen.
