  Question for Evangelicals: Are JWs Going to Hell?

  Where does NEW LIGHT come from?

  the watchtower has said over and over that they are not inspired (even though their earlier publications claimed that they were modern-day prophets), so where exactly does "new light" come from?

  if they are not inspired by god, why should anyone listen to them?.

  Its the 'Aha' moment most people experience with ideas and connections, just in the hands of ultra religious people it gets routed thru God to give those ideas the extra octane needed for their cause.

  Everything About Being An Elder is Weird (my misc rambling memories of being an elder)

  for any brother who is a jehovah's witness, the goal is put before them to reach out for the privilege of being an elder.

  i can only speak for myself, but being born into the religion, i wanted to be an elder since i was 5. i would have much rather wanted to be a doctor or engineer, but those are the breaks..... i'll skip the part about what it takes to reach out, all the crap you have to put up with as a ministerial servant to get appointed, and go straight to the reality.. i know many elders who sincerely just wanted to be shepherds.

  i did want the spotlight.

  Thanks for sharing Jeff. The lack of formalized training as counselors put us at a disadvantage. The Elders Schools I attended were rehashes of articles written in the Wt., one I attended in the mid 1980's actually was a course in how to look up articles.

  One of the great joys and satisfactions in the past few years has been to get the education and training as a professional counselor at a local university and to work with people trying to make their lives better.

  john 1:12 but as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of god, even to them that believe on his name:.

  why did we beg for jehovah's forgiveness at every prayer when clearly the son has this authority?.

  I just left all those superstitions behind, its called growth. You'll get there, even many of the Protestant groups and many Catholics stopped believing in Hell fire and God torturing people decades ago. You got dupped, it happens, move on, grow, help humanity and this earth in meaningful ways.

  A lot of individuals and religions associated with Christianity have jettisoned the notion of Hell fire or God torturing people. Read the article by jwfacts, even many Protestant Churches have come to the realization that there were to many ethical and moral problems with that doctrine to continue to teach it. Russell was not the first to realize John Calvin and the other proponents of Hell were nuts.

  Think outside of the Sunday school box you were raised in, you'll get there, and remember to be kind and do good everyday.

  Other Religions Compatible to JWs

  just wondering, are there any religions that exist that might be palatable to dubs?

  i realize all of their teaching goes against this, but i'm wondering from an outside or neutral view, can you think of any that would work for someone who was/is a jw?
