What ya doing for new years?

i've actauly always celebrated it, my family could never see a reason not to.

champagne, posh frock and fancy resterant are normaly in order.... what about you?.

What I'd like to do - go to a nice restaurant for dinner, maybe some drinks, and dancing away til the wee hours of the morning

What I will probably do - be a couch potato with my hubby and watch the new year's eve shows while sipping on some beers and eating popcorn.

my eldest daughter is having a hard time dealing with our new family dynamics.

since my marriage breakup over a year ago, i have finally started to enoy life and fading fast from the jw's , well actually i've done a disappearing act.

i have not attended a meeting for 4 months now!

I wonder if maybe it goes deeper than her just not liking that you are going out and living life when you should be doing "motherly" things. Perhaps she really is just jealous that you are free of the cult and are now able to enjoy your life where she does not have that freedom. And by that I mean that she's in the religion still, and is probably being scrutinized in everything she does, especially now that she is engaged to a JW, and maybe she wants to be able to leave like you have, but she is scared of the consequences? Do you think that could be the case since she did express to you that she doesn't want to be a witness anymore?

Why do Ex-JWs start celebrating pagan Christmas?

hiya guys and gals.

im not trying to be self-righteous but i want to understand the thought process of someone who knows the origins of christmas, but starts celebrating it (putting up christmas tree, exchanging wrapped gifts; repeating merry christmas to everyone they see in the month of december)??

it seems very silly to me (imo) after knowing how and why christmas was created (to cater to pagans sun worship and convert to christianity)!!

I celebrated Christmas with my family as a child and all the way through high school (I wasn't a dub yet) and I can tell you first hand when I found that Santa was really my mom, and when all my cousins found out the same thing, no one looked like this . My world didn't shatter, my love for my parents didn't fade, and I didn't feel betrayed. I think its the same for most kids too.

The way I see it, and from what many people have expressed to me, they celebrate Christmas by spending time with family they don't get to see any other time of year, exchanging gifts with people they love, enjoying the weather, the music, the atmosphere that comes along with this time of year. I can't see anything wrong with that. And Christmas isn't doing anything to harm anyone, in fact its celebrating Jesus, who most people believe to be their savior. Does it really matter that he wasn't born in December?

And like many others have posted, if you are going the "Its a Pagan holiday" route, then you need to take a look around because just about everything has roots in Paganism. You can't avoid it.
