isn't it the 'fellowship' and the 'love'... a 'uniting bond of unity' (puke).. what if they didn't have it??.
i mean, what if, when someone visited a hall for the first time, they weren't welcomed with open arms and 'love-bombed' / conned into their clutches.

Mindchild..I agree..its important that we lead happy lives. I think JWs are surprised when they ask you how you are and you respond 'Couldn't be better!' etc. They think how can that be? They have no idea how normal and pleasant life is!

oh the busy lives of janitors.
my wife, the loyal dub also told him that i have a problem with the blood issue.

Yup! and there's the matter of plasma....95% water and the rest fractions. The water is OK....and the fractions are but together its a WTS 'no-no'!
Hey and sure the WTS stand really protects against HIV etc....Doh! The risks associated with transfusions of fractions which need blood from many, many donors...mean they are have an increased liklihood of contamination. cf. factor 8 transfusions.
Who has the right to say that God says fractions are Ok but plasma isn't.

On shunning
by joelbear inon shunning.. the watchtower basically points to two reasons to shun people:.
1) it will make the wrongdoer think about their course of life and help them to come back to "the truth".. 2) it will protect your faith in jehovah and will keep you from being stumbled.. i think there are really 2 other reasons.. 1) fear of being shunned themselves for associating with you.. 2) to punish you for not thinking or being like them anymore.
kind of a revenge thing.

Hey Joelbear...don't forget the idea of shunning is a scriptural one and is adopted by a number of belief systems. You can't really be surprised about it all. Its poor though. IMO opinion if you join a cult expect crap if you leave.

Media Sensationalizes Nukes vs Terrorists
by Amazing inlistening to cnn and other news outlets, i find that the media pundits are making a big deal out of nuke plants vs terrorists.
in one case on cnn they are either illinformed or dishonest.. the claim was made this morning that nuke plant containments have never been tested for an airplane crashing into them.
this is false.. i posted on this topic two or three weeks ago.

I think if the arab dudes wanted to get awkward they simply have to refuse to supply oil to the west. There was close on a catastrophe here last year when there was a petrol strike. Everyone was effected. Within a week..there was little food in the shops...Drs/nurses could not get to hospitals...schools were closed as teachers could get there. If it lasted much longer there would have been real hardship.

Why be a good person?

because god commands it, because the bible requires it, because good people go to heaven and bad people go to hell.
the vast majority of people derive their morality from religion.

Why not approach the same question from an evolutionary perspective. Being moral and good have benefits. You have less chance of being killed if you are a good person as oppose to bad person. If you are moral you stand better placed to raise a family sucessfully.
No mysteries.
