I have never experienced the kind of oppression that you mentioned. I am not aware of anyone in the truth having to endure the kind of 'mind control' that has been claimed by some. It is good that children question and probe, how else can they learn? The Bible commands parents to bring their children up in the ways of Jehovah, that is their responsibility, and when the child is 18 years old, he/she is free to do as he/she chooses. Living a clean life has it's benefits, wouldn't you agree?

Witness teens /mental health probs in future?
by termite 35 inthere was a very interesting programme on radio4 this afternoon-dealing with teenagers and their possible problems.. i feel that many witness teens maybe heading for mental health problems due to the issues raised today.. we all know that jw teens are encouraged by the society to follow the leadership of the org.regarding the problems they may face during this difficult time.. the society has made it seem as though it is facing these problems by producing books and magazine articles especially for teens; but how useful are they?.
apparently to grow a healthy teen you need many things.see if you think the points i remembered(there were many more)could explain mental health problems for witnesses in later life.... 1.it's not rebellion that makes a healthy teenager; the most sucessful ones question and are allowed to question.. 2.in doing this they 'find' their own wat in life and learn to be comfortable in their own skins.. 3.teenagers understand the world and how to survive in it by exploring it in their own way.. 4.telling a teen 'these are the rules you should follow' make for unhappy teens...and unheathy mental health.. 4..when parents realise that a teen is preprogrammed to need to discover who they are; they can stop taking it personally and remember that the teen has to find their own path for their own mental growth.. 5.stunting a teens natural tendancy to 'strike' out on their own actually harms their coping abilities in the future.. 6.teenagers who have not been allowed to follow their own thinking for a while end up not having enough self esteem to even start thinking about theses things.this is where the problems start.. they will lack the life coping skills that other sucessful teens have; they will be more prone to depression; self harm;mental illness and suicide.. .
self harm is a classic example of a teen who has'nt questioned and therefore has'nt learnt to cope on their own, mentally.the cutting satisfies and releases feeling that are incommunicable due to repression in those years.. so please; all you witness parents- just because your child want to question, don't think they are rebellious in a bad sense- if they do question it proves you have brought them up well so far.don't spoil their future mental well-being by stopping them on their last stage of growth in to adult mental health.. let them question and speak openly without fear of reproach from you;help to set them up for adult hood..

For those who bash America
by puppylove inso how small does your "pee pee" have to be to stoop to bashing america on a jw support board?.
feeling rather put upon for america's sake, living in new york city, feeling like bashing in the brains of anyone who says that americans going about their daily routines "brought this (9/11) upon themselves".
i will always remember the day i looked out my window at work and saw over 3,000 people dying..

Interesting thread. While I don't agree with all of the Society's interpatations of the book of Revelation, I think they are right on target that America is the 'False Prophet'.

What do JW's Do on the 4th?
by Double Edge inpardon my ignorance, having never been a jw, but what do jw's do on the fourth since they don't believe in flag and country?
can they go to friend's bar-b-ques?

Yes, I will be out in service, but afterwards a few of the friends are getting together for some bar-b-que and we are going to watch some fireworks. My favorite are the M-80's(the real M-80's)!

Cygnus is in bad shape
by Cygnus injust so i don't miss anybody who is interested.... my results from the ekg and the echogram showed a severe leak in a heart valve.
i am going for an angiogram on the 15th but the cardiologist says the liklihood is great that i will need open heart surgery.
rare for a 30 year old but if necessary, it is necessary.. no word yet on the results of the blood work for liver enzymes and hepatitis.

A brother in our congregation just had heart surgery to replace his valves. He is in his late thirties, and naturally because he wouldn't take blood he was quite worried. Everything went fine, and he is doing very well. Before, he was real weak and now he is taking walks every day. Before he was a witness he took a lot of cocaine which damaged his heart, he was really in bad shape, but since his surgery he has a new lease on life. At least you can take blood if you need it! I hope the best for you!

Why is 'women bashing' allowed on this board?
by wholewheat inthere is a poster on this board with the moniker 'd8ta' that has called a female poster a 'bitch' and another female poster a 'whore' and yet you men let him get away with it.
this is disgusting!
is this what leaving jehovah does to people?

professor,
You ask if I have anything constructive or interesting to bring to this forum? No I don't, as long as it isn't 'Watchtower bashing' and the belittling of other posters(D8TA was the exception, I have to admit). Are there guidelines as to what a person should post that could be defined as constructive or interesting? As one of Jehovah's witnesses I am probably making a mistake coming on this board, as it will most surely in time shipwreck my faith. I think there are many ex-JWs that have the wrong impression of some of the JWs, they are good people, and they don't deserve some of the criticisms that are said here. But that is what this board seems to be about, and that is blowing off steam and as xenawarrior said, it is not about me, which I can agree to that. I cannot see myself spending the rest of my life with so much anger, even if I were to leave the organization, but everybody is different. Don't you all think that spending so much time on this board will just keep you upset and that you will never be able to 'heal', as you say? Why not just move on if you hate the organization so much? Who wants to walk around with so much anger all the time? I'd go crazy!! Even if the organization wasn't directed by Jehovah, there are far worse religions to hate than Jehovah's witnesses.

professor,
Why did I start this thread? To ask a question! Some ex-JWs said that Russell was a Freemason and a memeber of the Adventist Church and I wanted some other ex-JWs input to see if this was really true. I don't know the facts myself and I don't comment because I really don't have anything to contribute.

This thread is the most reasonable discussion for me yet, and I appreciate all of your comments. I have been reading all sorts of information on the ex-JWs web sites, including people's personal experiences. Some of this information is unbelievable, and I really feel sorry for the exJWs that have suffered at the hands of unchristian brothers and sisters. I guess I have been sheltered because I have never witnessed this kind of thing in my congregation, I love my congregation! My first disappointment with the Society has been the program on dateline, and there are other witnesses who fill the same as me. I know the Society is going to try to exercise some sort of 'damage control', and in the long run all it will do is stumble more brothers and sisters. Could Jehovah be cleaning house at Headquarters? The other thing to ask is who in the Society made the policy of not reporting pedophiles? Was it the entire Governing Body, or just 2/3 of the Body that agreed to this policy? I love my brothers and sisters and feel sorry for the victims, but something this bad had to come out in the open. The worst thing the Society could have done is not be interviewed on the dateline program, maybe someone will come forward later and give an interview.

SpiderMonkey,
OOOPS!! Did I say 'dumb-dumb'? I'll probably get removed for that! Where did I say that D8TA was my enemy? I care very deeply for the mentally impaired.
