A most interesting anecdote I came across is that Lot was discredited in the Hebrew accounts, as his descendents are modern Arabs. Lot gets a much better historical treatment by the rival relatives.

Lot and his daughters are properly turning away, in order to save their lives. Is it no wonder that families suppress their natural instincts and shun those closest to them, in a misguided belief that by doing so they are "saving" their loved-ones?

History is foreshortened. I thought we renewed our park pass last summer but it was two years ago, long expired.
I can spend an entire afternoon observing the behavior of bees. No exaggeration. Mindful meditation can extend our now experience, and the associated pleasure. I try to be mindful when I eat now.
Think about it. A two year old experiences half his life in one year. That's a lot of learning going on! It must seem to stretch forever. For me, a year is 0.018 of my experience. Barely a blip.

millie, that is largely why I regularly attend my local church. I see the same friendly faces week after week, I am asked after my health, and I derive pleasure in watching the children grow to adulthood and have children of their own. It is a sense of community.

Yeah there is Al Anon. I think this man's affection has been drowned in alcohol. So in a way it is not personal. There is nothing wrong with you! As for not fitting in at seven congregations, you have a lot in common with Blondie, and she is a great lady. Her mom was a JW, her dad a military man and an abuser. Because she came from a "mixed" family she was left out of social events. She finally concluded the lack of love was systemic. Again, there was nothing wrong with her! I hope things start looking up and that you find more fruitful outlets for your love and generosity.

sowhatnow - you sound like you might be depressed. Might you check with your family physician? You might also benefit from a skills test to see what it is that you really enjoy and are good at. I suspect you have a strong creativity streak.

I must have had a lovely weekend. This is my first day back at work after four weeks away, and I am missing my afternoon siesta.
No, really, the intermittent showers didn't slow me down at all. Went for many walks, umbrella in one hand and popsicle in the other.

Convention Season-"Saving Good Seats" & Other Embarrassing Behavior
by Darth Fader The Sequel insince it is the convention season (and i am not attending this year or ever again), and i have been seeing other posts about some of the goings on at the various ic's and rc's, i am reminded of some of the truly embarrassing behavior i have "witnessed" (pun intended) over my lifetime of being a jdub at the various conventions and assemblies.
probably the most disillusioning experience at a convention that i have ever had was one year when i volunteered to be an attendant.
all of the volunteers were asked to attend a special meeting a few months beforehand to get instructions for our duties as attendants.

I equate truth with unassailable evidence. That about leaves out any theologies or philosophies.

Losing Faith in Faith..
by Dis-Member ini came across this lecture at 3am not being able to sleep by dan baker.
it details his transition from christian fundamentalist to atheist and the various shades in-between.
he realises that every denomination of christian can open the bible and prove to you that they have the right interpretation and everyone else is wrong.

I'm tired and weary of books and writings of the words of men claiming to be truth on any matter at all when there are as many different truths as there are people on earth. - Dis-Member
I can relate to that feeling for sure. After deconstruction, I set about asking myself what makes me really happy? I enjoy community, creating, teaching. So I do those things. Not all of the things I do are logical. But then I'm not entirely a logical being.
Here's what I did a few weeks ago:
