i am asking this question because jehovah's witnesses claim they have "the best way of life", "god's blessing", "the truth" and are trying to change the habits of healthy people by turning them in to their own makings.

i watched people who were great athletes turn all their muscle in to fat because we would get a elder or circuit overseer make remarks they were spending too much time "working out" and "bodily training is beneficial for little".

I'm at the part of Pinker's book (Better Angels...., around page 700) where he speaks about self-control. We've only got so much of it to spread around even though it can be strengthened with exercise. Consider how much a Jehovah's Witness has to suck in. That takes a lot of effort.

There's a volkswagen commercial right now where buddies speeding down the highway have trim bellies, but as soon as the car stops they sag. Funny. So a Witness off the leash, so to speak, is going to be tempted more than the average man to throw control to the wind. This can show up as an alcohol problem, overeating, or other impulsive activity. It has to be a closet addiction, however, in order to keep up appearances.

That COBE is completely dysfunctional about food and weight gain. I understand the temptation to condemn. He lost the weight once and it would have been easy back then to sneer at those that did not show the same "self control" that he did. He's lost touch, however, and he has rejoined the ranks of the struggling. Ergo, he hates himself.

bible describes atheism as a condition of the heart and is all about seeking what is ephemeral, not acting with insight.

(psalm 14:1, 2) thus it rightly says the whole world is lying in the attraction of what is ephemeral.

(wicked one is not a correct translation.1 john 5:19) thus even believers who pray to god (for material blessings) are actually atheists as they are not trying to be poor in spirit.

after going through all the processes of how they appointed elders in the past they say this:.

"the elders in turn would inform the newly appointed men of their appointment, asking them if they were willing and actually qualified to accept the assignment.

so after qualifying the man you ask him if he is qualified.. .

Elders in a traditional native community become so by community consensus. The position can't be applied for, and nobody appoints.

...and what is with the refusal to accept a resignation? What they gonna do? Hold back your last paycheque? I say if they sign you up for things after resigning, blow it off. Let them scramble.
