by caballoSentado inhi friends,.
i need confirmation about a rumour i keep hearing about in my country.
several jw's who know about the wt-un affair are saying that in usa the wt is having the elders in the congregations give a speech accepting the blame for this scandal & asking for forgiveness or something similar.

it seems the supply is limited again this season.
he didn't have any side affects, but my arm has been hurting since yesterday.

I have had my shot every year for over five years now, after a particularly nasty flu knocked me out but good. That shot has saved me a fortune in medications. Not to mention the benefits of days and days of good health. I have barely been sick until last year. Asking around, I figure the shot works better for some than others. If your immune system is fairly healthy to begin with, the flu shot helps even more. My family members who have serious health problems get less of a benefit.

I have noticed that people feel confused and scared when they know they have a tough decision to make, but dont want to. I am guessing you are scared to tell your parents you are re-examining your faith, and the fallout consequences of that. If you declared you are changing beliefs, what would their reaction be? I imagine most parents (who cared about this sort of thing) would have a big fit, and then get over it. Part of becoming an independent adult is developing your own opinions on things, and these will not always be the same as what our parents hope for. Tough for them. That is part of growing up.
It is good to spend time thinking about what you really believe. I suggest, however, that you spend more time in personal study, without any ones influence. I think that would be most helpful for you in considering what you really believe and to fully develop your independence. Before you leave the Orthodox Coptic Church, why dont you find out more about it, and why they believe what they do? At least then, you will be better informed on what you are leaving. Here are some handy links:
I notice the Coptics are proud of their Cross. The JWs believe the cross is a pagan symbol, and that Jesus really died on a torture stake. Their beliefs in this do not stand up under careful scrutiny. Another poster here, Leoalia, prepared a great study on this issue, which you might appreciate.
Research on Torture Stake or Cross
You asked for scriptures to help you make a decision. There several key scriptures that I use as a measure to see if a belief or a behaviour is Christian or not. I use these as my internal compass.
- Matthew 22:37-40
- Matthew 7:17-20
- Galatians 5:22-23
Ask your friend if 1 John 3:3 applies to him, or you, or the anointed? By the way, the fallout in a JW home is far more severe. A rebelling child is shunned, including non-communication except for the most essential tasks. This is what the parents are taught to do.

Comments You Will Not Hear at the 10-27 WT Study
by blondie in" why not, they better get used to it because that is what the elders do.
god is definitely near but the elders will be far away.. logical reasoning.
in conclusion, do the jws really teach gods word or the truth about god?

Thank you, blondie. I also really enjoy your posts. My own personal commentaries on last week's material:
Effective Use of Questions - I have found there is no substitute for genuine interest in people. I have to be sincerely interested in the person - who they are, what they care about - to have any kind of meaningful discussion. Since JW's are not allowed to associate informally with worldly people, they are stuck checking out the lawn ornaments to get some idea what the householder might be interested in. That kind of approach just makes them look foolish or glib.
Keep it Simple - Am I glad they finally figured that out! Perhaps the publishers of the Watchtower will start applying the basic principles of plain language. Right now their choice of words seem to go more along the lines of, "When attempting to sound particularly impressive, use the thesaurus to locate a multisyllabic alternative. This is easier than doing research, without the risk of locating information contrary to your desired result."

What if the cloth is cheesecloth, and unripened cheese is being squeezed? Whey is being poured out on the earth, and what is left in the bag is....a bunch of curds? This is not how I envisioned holding on to Jehovah's hand..
No one can deliver out of my hand.
When I act, who can reverse it?" Isa 43:13Except the bag is being held the wrong way. The curds and whey would both be dumped.

To anyone who thinks we should simply take up the issue with God, I kindly remind them that we don't need to. Jesus already did.
Great rebuttal. I will remember this one, for sure.

Can any believer answer this?
by LucidSky init was the point i decided to become agnostic.
i found my final stumbling block in my search for god.
i asked (myself as well as others): why would god create carnivorous animals before sin?

ginosko, I am with you.
I think that is only a cultural point of view to see offensive that animals eat animals. I prefer to see Isaiah 11:6 as symbolic, not literal. Genesis talk about the wild beasts and also great sea "monsters" previous to the sin of Adam.
If I see one more recipe for vegetarian doggie treats, I think I am going to vomit.
