    Are we really apostates?

    by JH in

if the jehovah witnesses are really the one and only true religion, and we did quit, then i agree that we are apostates.

but since we seem to all agree that they made wrong prophesies, and changed so often the meaning of the bible, why then do we call ourselves apostates?

if we quit a religion that didn't have the truth, then why are we so hard on ourselves?

If we take a term that is meant to be derogatory and make it our own, do we remove it's power to hurt us?

You are quoting a quote from what source? Is Shiloh used at Revelation 6:2, or is than an inference from something else? I brought this up to point out that the WTS, for whatever reason, are ignoring the strong association this word has with peace and tranquility, rather than authority.

    Spousal Abuse Thoughts

    by DakotaRed in

i have been having an ongoing discussion with a friend about spousal abuse.

she has come to accept and believe that i have never hit a woman in my life, but feels that i am a rarity.

i contend that i am not, that although too many men still hit their wives, they are in the minority.

My ex was violent and abusive. I stayed for 3 years, then walked away, never to come back. Thank you Cassiline for saying it,

Please be aware of the power and control, which is prominent in abusive relationships. Lets not lay blame where is does not belong and try to understand the situation which is confusing to some. Try not to underestimate the power of an abusive partner.

Consider, for example, the many people who remain with the Jehovah's Witnesses, even when they are miserable. An abusive organization, just like an abusive husband, will use as many hooks as possible to maintain control.

Jehovah's Witnesses are such an anti-religion. You are asked to believe in them because everyone else is wrong. So what does a former member do when they have decided that the WTS is not living up to its billing either? One is left believing against nothing. This is very different than believing in something.

It does sound like your hubby craves a spiritual element to his life. Somehow, you both have to activate that natural desire and direct it in a positive direction. Amazing has a wonderful story of how he coaxed his entire family out by encouraging independent bible study. There are also bible studies to be found online. www.gospelcom.net is a great resource. If you are up to going to regular meetings again and having your theology stretched a little, there is the Alpha Program being used by many different denominations. Look for the fella below for a church in your area that is running the program.

Interesting quote, "We have a very aggressive policy to handle child molestation in the congregations," more like " We have a very aggressive policy to handle those who besmirch our good name."

Jesika, you were articulate and stayed on point. Good job!

do you have any odd or unusual reasons why the elder's decided to cancel one of your meetings?.

i don't know if this is necessarily unusual but our hall lost power one cold day.

    the meeting was cancelled.

How about a backed up toilet that spewed sewage all over the KH? The following weekend the congregation was given counsel on the proper disposal of diapers and "feminine supplies".
