A Poll - Watchtower's Favorite Bible Heroes
by jgnat inof all the bible heroes, who are the watchtower's favorites?

Hey, I really want to know. Any one got some thoughts? All right, I go first. I think the five top WT heroes are:
- Noah - that saintly man busy building Jehovah's boat while everyone else ignored him and partied on. Poor, poor Noah...
- Job! Who can forget Job! He didn't even make the Hebrew list... Another miserable man.
- Daniel - love that end-time prophecy!
- Isaiah - same reason!
- Ezekiel - same reason.
C. Do you have a favorite hero and why?
I like David. He spoke his mind. He "went ahead" of his elder brothers and sensibly killed a giant. He did not sit around in his King's court waiting to get his head lopped off. He had a fine sense of self-preservation. He sang his troubles away. He taught me how to handle depression.

Who is Shiloh?
by jgnat inwhat got me studying shiloh?
the following is extracted from wt october 1, 2002 comfort in a troubled world, nov 24 study, cultivate obedience as the end draws near paragraphs 1, 2. the article goes on to explain how the faithful and discreet slave are ambassadors substituting for christ(para 4).
here are the beginning paragraphs:.

I agree with you, bjc2read. What you name a person has significance, as well. Since Shiloh is also a place associated with peace and tranquility, I believe the name is associated with peace and tranquility as well. For instance, my middle name means "God's Pearl", which I think is lovely. I try to live up to my name.
I think it is significant that the WTS choses to ignore this sense of meaning, and focuses entirely on rulership.

A. Tell me who you think are the top five heroes the Watchtower Society champions, and
B. Who do you think the WTS ignores?

What wonderful things to say. They are so true, and I wish I had said them. I am glad I have found a local friend because of this board, and I hope to meet you face to face one day.
You are so right about how easy it is to find negative websites on the WTS. The other day, my daughter was considering joining Watkins, but was afraid they might be a pyramid scheme. I told her, "give me a minute, we can find out right away". I did a quick google search associating Watkins with pyramid and other nasty words. No hits. I said, "You have nothing to worry about. The same search for Jehovah's Witnesses will give you tons of hits."
At that very moment, my honey was walking by. "Hey!"

COMMENTS YOU WILL NOT HEAR AT THE 12-8-02 WT STUDY
by blondie incomments you will not hear at the 12-8-02 wt study .

Thanks for your comments, Blondie. I was struck by the frequent references to the power of the Devil in an article entitled "Jehovah Cares for You". Over and over the sheep are exhorted to cling to Jehovah (read WTS) like Saran Wrap. Stick a toe out, and you will be DEVOURED. Supposedly a measly 0.1% of the world's population enjoys this exclusive protection in a world, by all description, reigned over by The Other Guy.
Take a peek outside, you lurkers. It is not raining pitch. There are a lot of lovely people out here, and the sun is shining.

Talk about flashbacks...my mother was diagnosed bipolar disorder when I was a teen. She could get really nasty at times, and my dad rode it out. He waited until all the kids were grown and she was fairly stable before he left her. Boy, was she mad. She figured dad would be there to take care of her forever. Dad was very generous, though. He gave her the house and a monthly allowance (she had never worked outside the home). What he got was his freedom, and he kept his conscience clear.
Through my adult life, I have had to step in on occassion to get mom back on track. My ex is schizophrenic, and my son has been diagnosed with that disease as well. It is pure hell trying to get the right supports in place, and nearly impossible to get help for the affected family. Congrats on getting help for yourself and the kids.
As much as you feel responsibility towards your wife, there may be a time when you will have to cut and run, for your sake and for your kids. By the way, my mom found a new boyfriend and has remained stable for over 10 years.

The Watchtower Society Doesn't Care About Anything
by minimus inthe wt.
society doesn't care about how outsiders view them.
they don't care about how the rank and file look at them.they don't give any credence to congregational elders or ministerial servants or pioneers.

I think Bethel does care about their public image of the society. They tell the r&f they don't care what the television says about them. Otherwise, why would their teachings get noticably paranoid after the last round of bad publicity? I also notice they make a big deal about the JW sacrifice during WW II in Germany. They get themselves invited to every "survivors of the holocaust" memorial.
Problem is, with rigor mortis setting in, the organization is functionally incapable of change. They don't know how to care.
