Initial Analysis Of The Times Square Bombing Attempt
by leavingwt ininitial analysis of the times square bombing attempt.
and so it is with target new york.
it is entirely possible, nay likely, that the recent times square car bomb was placed at the doorstep of the viacom building's main northeast entrance because of the south park controversy.

It's a shame a guy who appeared to actually get it, is now pandering to the morons. To the detriment of us all.
From that. I assumed you meant Obama - and were denouncing him taking a strong military stand in Pakistan with the drones.

Do Jehovah's witnesses have a global view of their organization?
by dgp inthe watchtower is a multi-national organization.
it makes it a point to translate all of its literature into as many languages as possible.
and, considering the travels of some brothers and sisters, one would think that learning other languages is also encouraged, and preaching away is encouraged, too.

It may be completely ironic, but perhaps the most "global" thing they have yet done was the scandalous approach to become a United Nations NGO - Which of course, they are in complete denial of now.

Once again, Beks, I am afraid I must point out that those on the political left are very sympathetic to the Jihad cause -

Good place to post it again.
My very last JW meeting ever was in about 1979 or 1980 at the first Saturday morning of the circuit assembly.
I walked in - looked around for about two minutes - and just could not do it.
Walked right back out, got into my Corvette, and never looked in the rear view mirror.

Isn't the technicality with the oath and children in school that it is an oath, not to the United States, but "I pledge allegiance to the flag", an idol, therefore idolatry?
That may have been a Watchtower argument, but wasn't Ceaser's image on the Roman coin also an image? Jesus said to render it to Ceasar.
It is really impossible to make a credible argument that the United States flag salute is an act of religious worship to an idol. For example, why would a witness kid stand "at attention" for idol worship, if that is what it is?
Reality is that this is a political anti-american control mechanism to make the U.S. witnesses "different" for WTS purposes.

Back in the 1970s, when I was first an overseer and then an elder, we had far fewer DFs in my area than is reported to be the case now. I can remember probably less than 10 cases and maybe half that many who were reinstated.
Looking back, I would say that every single case we reinstated were essentially like what Heartbreaker wrote above:
I wasn't repentant as much as wanted off punishment.
I might also note that back in those ancient days, it was inconceivable to us that an elder could be DFd, later repent, and within a year or two become an elder again.
I think the standards for being DFd, and being reinstated, (and in turn being made elder again) have been considerably reduced.

This has a certain similarity to the United Nations scandal - the elite high end of the organization is plainly caught doing something forbidden to the ordinary members.
There is a second similarity - the act forbidden to the ordinary members is clearly NOT really a biblical sin! It is a "sin" only because the Watchtower told people it was!
Can any sane person actually say that it is some kind of sin to pledge allegiance to your government when you apply for a passport for foreign travel? Can any sane person actually prove that the United Nations is prophecied in Revelation as Satanic, and that it is a sin to cooperate with them as an NGO for foreign charitable or educational work? I cannot see any case that either one is some kind of vast sin -
But, for the Watchtower Society - doing either thing is a major scandal - because of the problem of hypocrisy. The elite of the WTS have never learned their lesson on the danger of maintaining dual standards on following the rules for themselves and for their followers.

Something the CO said at the CA last week...
by Soldier77 in... that i just remembered.
it has been brought up in one of the many enlightening posts here, but i wanted to just share what he said.. the co was speaking about how the org growth has somewhat tapered off and not seeing the large increases as before (too bad we don't have a talk about how many that have left!
) and that the org is now 7+mil active members (yes, he said active specifically).
-

It is interesting that this CO publicly acknowledged that "the growth has been slowing down lately, or is flat".
I don't think I have ever heard the witnesses admit such a thing before, not even in 1976 as people started flat out leaving for about 3 years.

ExJWs & "Adult" Subjects On The Forum
by minimus ini think we have a tendency to get ourselves involved in subjects that might be "r" or worse rated because we couldn't as a jehovah's witness.. any talk or discussion of something considered "wrong" would get you into trouble.. many of us who were brought up in the religion never had any real "normal fun" growing up.
we couldn't associate with "worldly" people and even jws were considered "bad association" if they didn't fit the congregation's ideals.
we couldn't tell an off colored joke.

Well, just for what it is worth - there was a thread where Leolai posted a really old picture of some Australian missionaries and their old car. I volunteered to try to identify the car to help date the picture. (one of the people was supposedly the GF of Russell)
That whole thread got deleted because somebody apparantly got upset over copyright issues on the clip and paste.
It has happened in the past for political issues as well.
I don't take the thread deletion thing too seriously here - it is just part of this board from time to time.
