  The "identity" of the ONLY.....god

  if there is only one of something (anything) it does not need to be separated from others of its kind since there simply aren't others.. if there is a real something and a true something (as opposed to a phoney or false) it stands alone unique and disambiguated.. .

  that is the foundational problem with giving an only true god a "distinguishing" name.. if only one true god is living there is no chance of offending that god by cheating on him with imaginary "rivals".. .

  imagine being jealous of your wife or husband pretending to have an affair with a non-existent rival!.

  How often does a Wt song run through your head

  yesterday i was sitting here and all of a sudden realized i was humming one of those dreadful songs.

  i even remembered the words!

  <chills>.. so i sat here and started singing other songs out loud, which i normally don't do even though i live alone and don't have to listen to people begging me to stop singing.. so how do you get those songs out of your head?.

  JWoods, they probably sold it and put it in their own coffers or the WTS without any acknowledgment to your mother. I hope she took it off on her taxes.

  Well, it was still just sitting there for about, what, 4 years or so when we all quit attending in the late 1970s. Water under the bridge now, of course. If I recall correctly, they first disbanded the circuit assembly orchestras when the first records came out (that pissed off a lot of faithful musical volunteers) - but left the KH piano optional. Then, word came down about a year or so after for all KHs to use the records.

  I am a musician and played piano at the KH for years until they ended that.

  That reminds me - when we built the new KH in Yukon, Oklahoma, my mother bought a new upright piano for them to use. When they switched to those awful soap-opera style records they did not offer to give it back. I guess it is either still there, or maybe they sold it for money.

  one of the things i really like about being out of the cult is that i no longer have to go to those long, boring district conventions.

  instead, i can do other things with my new family (fiancee and soon to be step son).

  we were out and about sunday, i had taken the day off from work, no point in bothering people with collections on a sunday and a holiday.. we had planned to go to a suburb of st. louis, mo (st. charles) and see some of the vendors on the riverfront in the afternoon and then wait for the fireworks in the evening .

  Funny, I have never been to a business-related convention in which ANYBODY ATTENDING - hosts, or guests - wanted to wear their name badges all over town outside the official sessions.

  Yet, that idea - wearing them around for all the locals to see (proving you to be an oddball) is a prime directive of the WT.

  (oh, wait--they don't call 'em assemblies any more, do they? I mean "convention").

  Interesting, the two words were interchangeable JW-speak back in my day over 3 decades ago.

  But not necessarily convince anyone. For example, you do not convince me you are actually a JW.

  hated guilt-tripping expressions

  i always hated when some idiot got up on stage & said "we all have the same amount of hours in the day" than pull a pioneer out of his hat who is a single mother w/kids who works & has a debiliting medical issue.

  all designed to make everyone feel like somehow they're playing around & wasting time.

  at the dc's or assemblies i also hated when for experiences they would drag up some 90 yr old pio in a wheelchair & some "brother" who works part time but somehow supports a family of 6 and their all pio's.. my thoughts were "what idiot thought this stuff would be encouraging" .

  "Spiritually Weak" - this had nothing to do with true spirituality. It meant going to the meetings and especially going out in service.

  You could spend 12 hours a day reading the bible and still be "spiritually weak" if you weren't out there selling magazines.
