us pastor says will burn koran despite petraeus concernshttp://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100907/pl_afp/afghanistanunrestusreligionislampastor.
tue sep 7, 9:21 am et end .byline washington (afp) the pastor of a small florida church said tuesday he will go ahead with his plans to hold a koran burning this week, despite warnings by the us commander of the afghan war of violent reactions in the islamic world.terry jones, who heads the dove world outreach center in gainesville florida, said he had given "serious" consideration to the concerns expressed by general david petraeus over plans to torch a koran to mark the ninth anniversary of the september 11 terror attacks, but said he would proceed anyway.. "we are taking the general's words very serious.
we are continuing to pray about the action on september 11th," he said.. nevertheless, he said "we have firmly made up our mind" to go ahead with burning the muslim holy book.. "i mean, how long, when does america stand for truth?
I am speechless at such ignorance. No wonder, even the rest of the Western world is holding America at arms length. That is incredible reasoning.
Podo
He is not the spokesman for America, Podo. Probably at least 90% of Americans, if not more, on both conservative and liberal sides, think this "pastor" is a self-serving moron.
was watching the faith dvd yesterday, and he seems like a smarty pants know it all?
he doesnt seem like a hard hitter or bad ass or anything, but it seems like the kinda guy, that if you went out in field service with, that he would constantly correct you, and have smart ass comments to make about the householders who arent intrested in owning a watchtower or awake..
Apparently we shouldn't judge young, insane teenage partakers because some of them will end up on the Governing Body at age 50.
At which time, they're officially old enough to call the new teenage anointed young and insane.
So it goes...
Very profound. I thought something along the same lines after discussing it with Dave Wetzler - (and before that, I held the "annointed" in awe like any other good dub).
i'm sorry, it seems like i only post when i'm down.
so, most here probably think i'm depressed all the time, which isn't true.. but, i had a long distance romance, and now he doesn't even respond to my e-mails.
we have been talking for almost two years now.

Sorry to hear it. Maybe you should change your posting name when you feel better? I would also suggest finding somebody in your locality that you can meet face to face.
i have always liked gray goose but i am working on some "belvedere" that is nice.. anyone got a favorite vodka?.
I know nothing about vodka (just buy Stolichnaya when we need some for Caviar) but there is a thread with some real purists contributing on my Ferrari site: Some surprises -
None of them like Grey Goose. They claim there is a Costco brand made by the same company that is the same thing for half the price. They don't think good vodka can be made in France.
Held in great derision are modernistic "flavored vodkas" - watermelon, bubble gum, god knows what else...
Stolichnaya is considered an old-fashioned brand, acceptable - but crude and rough. Same for a local "hand-made" Texas brand - Tito, I think.
They profess to like a Polish potato-based kind called Chopin the best - if there is any concensus. I have never seen it.
Frankly, I can't see what great difference there can be between unflavored "grain neutral spirits" provided they are reasonably pure.

Wrong Way explained in another thread that he is talking about David Splaine, not the circuit overseer Dave Wetzler that I knew back when.
just curious..
Oh, OK. Much higher branch on the tree.
just curious..
Hi!
Hi Wrong Way - I was asking on the other thread if you knew circuit overseer Dave (David) Wetzler well?

David (hebr. "beloved one") started to partake when he was 17.
Really - I had always just assumed it was while he was in Bethel. Did you know him well?

This might be the only "Christian" religion where professing a desire to be with your Lord and Saviour in heaven makes your brothers resent you.
That is very true. I knew a Circuit Overseer in the late 60s, early 70s who professed to be of the annointed. Dave Wetzler. Dave, I would estimate, was born in the middle 1930s and he started partaking while at Bethel - probably in the 50s. I read on this forum that he passed away some years back. We worked together quite a bit back then as I was a pioneer and assistant congregation servant at a small congregation where the "need was great". He told me that he was viewed with great skepticism as a "new annointed" - but that by towing the mark he finally got promoted into the circuit work. He got married at the same time, so I am not sure if that had a factor (they didn't like married couples at Bethel). Dave was, for what it is worth, and in my opinion - a sincere person. However, he simply could not explain what made him feel that he was one of the annointed.
