  Well, to be perfectly smart-assed about it, unless you were the very last person to die during the end, it really could not totally come in your lifetime, could it?

  Oh - I guess you were speaking from the viewpoint of someone who thinks they can actually survive the real end of the world.

  One obvious example is that you can easily get yourself disfellowshipped for promoting certain (and many) ideas that they taught as absolute truth not much more than 2 or 3 decades back.

  There is also the fact that the WT Society itself discourages the reading or use of their historical writings for this very reason.

  for a lot of ways, the jw's firmly believe what the secular/worldly authorities & scientists have to say.

  (i.e.-how long the world has been here, etc).

  but don't they also make fun of them?

  I was not necessarily promoting the green revolution as a total success, but used it as an example of how the WT can take on certain secular issues or authorities as per the title of the thread. The statements of support came from a Wiki article - and these are not always the model of correct information.

  Of course, the alternative to growing as much food as possible in the face of famine is to simply let people starve - which would I guess reduce the problem eventually. This will not be considered morally allowable by the majority of people - especially the starvees.

  Back on topic - another obvious example would be the old "Evolution" pocket book. This shamelessly trashed biological science, archeology, carbon dating, and just about every known scientific discipline - all in the name of supporting a 49,000 year old earth that was totally and suddenly shaped by a global flood.

  While we are at it, I would suppose on the other hand that the JWs totally LOVE the idea of global warming - because this is yet another disaster to supply them with trepidation and fear.

  Historically, a probably forgotten example would be:

  In the 1960s, the so-called "green revolution" was the subject of numerous hate and ridicule articles in the Awake. This program was an attempt to modernize third world food production to reduce possible famines. It is now considered to be a successful effort in reducing world hunger. BTW, the far left of that time also hated it because they felt that it would make the task of turning many third world countries to communism more difficult if they were well fed and happy...less reason to revolt. Look it up sometime on Wiki.

  Of course, the witness (sick) agenda there was that they wanted famines and pestilence in order to fit in with their end-of-world view.

  IIRC, the space program was also taken on by several convention speakers as mere vanity - on the accord of the tower of Babel, so to speak.

  1930's Great Crowd - Still a "generation" problem?

  the recent "generation" explanation redo says that the generation means the anointed living now, and we can still have more anointed, therefore there is no limit on how long the generation can run.

  this is an attempt to keep 1914 alive and healthy.. however, the wts still teaches that the great crowd began to be gathered in the 1930's (ex: rutherford had people stand and said "behold, the great multitude) since revelation defines the great crowd as coming out of the great tribulation, doesn't that create a life span problem?

  what is going through the minds of even the youngest baptized 10 year old members of the great crowd in 1935 who are now in there 80's.. the other sheep of john 10 seems to fit a discription of gentiles.

  JW theology is actually in many ways more akin to Jewish fundamentalism (or at least the Talmudic versions) than it is to historical early Christianity.

  At the very center of this is their glorification of the war-god Jehovah and the diminution of Christ to a secondary position.

  LOL - How is providing a defination of insane for me going to help if I am actually insane?

  My point was that like the ancient teachings of the Tao; something carried to it's absolute extreme can circle back to have the opposite effect.

  For example, touching something extremely cold (like dry ice) can actually cause a burn...extreme laughter can make a person cry...too much light can make a person blind...etc.

  My point was that this behavior could only be regarded as somewhat odd, even if done for what I clearly stated was nominally a good cause.
