  Did you ever feel let down by the Bethel tour?

  reading jeff's thread about dress made me think of my one and only trip to bethel.. i can't remember if i was babtised at the time, but i went with a bus load of jws.. like someone said in the last thread, printing presses and empty rooms.

  i was very disapointed, however i don't think i had any pre-concieved notions of what it would be like.

  what i was diapointed in was so much of the "tour" was walking hallways looking at exhibits behind glass.

  I went on a group tour in 1972 - as I knew one of the bethel guys he took us on our own tour, so we missed the official thing. I don't recall anything about dress & grooming. The main thing I remember wondering was WHY they had just bought the Squibb pharmaceutical buildings when there were still empty spaces in what they had left over in the original buildings.

  Ed and Betty Dunlap had me plus the two old ladies I was escorting there over for drinks in their apartment afterward. The two old ladies were allowed to stay in an unused apartment in the same building (one of the restored brownstones) because the hotel was a fleabag. I was expected to hack the fleabag because I was a young turk.

  There was also a bus trip out to Walkill - the main thing I remember about this was doubting that this fairly modest farm (at least at that time) could really provide all the food for Brooklyn Bethel.

  No, at least not in this thread. Like I said, the Clarence Thomas issue had nothing to do with race - except for what you & LWT said: Black conservatives are specially reserved for an intense sort of hate from the far left because they don't fit the mold.

  Woods, it is not my judgment, it's the fact. As for the harassment, I said I believed what Hill accused him of, and also believed that it was not only minor, but that if it really bothered her she should have said something at the time. Don't you bother to read the posts of posters you are slamming?

  Beks, I read the part where you called Thomas treasonous. That is a worse slam than I have ever given you. I did not read the 10,000+ bytes you clipped and pasted about the Florida vote - which seems to me to be your big reason for hating Thomas.

  Did you ever consider that Gore would have been president without the SC involved if he could have only won his home state?

  it show a man holding a cd and it says that you have to buy the original one because it's immoral to use copied programmes,movies,games etc.tell me one jw who is not immoral when it come's to this because i don't know anyone..

  with the "generation change" and them changing it all the time it would make sence to dump it all togeather.. lets face it ,it can be disproved easly.. they dumped 1975 in a heart beat .. this would buy them all the time they wanted as they would just find another date to start the generation from ie: "the u.n year of peace and sercurty'',1986 i belive or whatever else they could think of.. they could sell it to the r&f as easly as they sold 1975,then dumped it when it did'nt happen .. anyone questioning them would be told they are running ahead of jehovah or lacking faith in his earthly org that feeds us food at the proper time .. what do you think?.

  Mostly, to me, they seem to just make the claim that they are the faithful and discrete slave (after all, they have the printing presses) and leave it at that. Manifest destiny, the JW version.

  I think it is possible that they just quit talking about it post 2014, just like they quit saying the creative days were 7,000 years and never say anything about 1975 any more. Well, correct that - they never say anything about 1975 anymore except to say that they never really said 1975 meant anything...

  Someday in the future, 1914 could become about as relevant as the golden bowls being poured out at some Cedar Rapids assembly, or the 7 trumpet blasts at Columbus, Ohio - all old crazy stuff that no witness of today probably even knows about.

  i started reading sign of the last days by carl oloff johnson this week.

  i am almost to page 50 right now, and have finished the section on world famines.

  wow - he really deconstructs the idea of whether famines have increased or decreased over the past 2,000 years.

  No surprise, though, that the WTS manipulates cold statistical data to sound like what they want...

  What I think Minimus may be missing here, Sylvia, is that Anita Hill was black too. It was not a racial issue - it was a partisan political issue, driven by (like you say) a demonstrably crazy woman.

  As for Beks - she just doesn't like the Thomas political position. Therefore, he is automatically guilty of harrassment, and incidentally treasonous in her judgement.

  We have seen this sort of "logic" from this source before.

  I do not trust the Pubs to put a moderate forward, and since they probably won't, Obama will surely win.

  I am not so sure - Obama has not been polling very well lately. Cynically, I could suggest that maybe the republicans could put someone forward who merely runs as a moderate - just like Obama did.
