  it was quite an impulse vote, didn't really know any of the candidates, but i have a small interrest in not having a government change, so i went with that one.

  mostly it was just to show myself that i can .

  i guess one of the things that i hold most against the senile octagenarians who run the wtbts and tell us things like "rock music is from satan" is how much music i either missed out on or felt guilty about listening to.

  i love music.

  everyone who knows me can tell when i am not listening to enough music.

  i'm sitting here in a comfy chair surfing the net, dog at my feet.

  the kids playing upstairs and the mrs doing some craftwork.

  the sun is shining outside and life couldn't be more relaxed.. if i wasn't here what would i be doing?

  my mom just called (she is an active jehovah's witness) she basically has very little to do with me.

  however she want's to come and visit me and my wife on christmas day .

  she lives in another state and wants spend the night.

  In that case she is using you as a Hotel. The way I would position it is as follows:

  Mum I would love to see you over the holidays and would be delighted to have you come and stay. However I must let you know that my familie's christmas arrangements have been fixed for some considerable time and if I were to change things now it would greatly inconvenience not just myself but others as well. I would fully understand if you would prefer to delay your visit until after the holiday as I will be unable to change arrangements at short notice. If you decide to stay anyway we will be respectful of your wishes as far as we can whilst still maintaining our family celebration. Here is the number of the local congregation if you wish to get in touch with brothers in the area with whom you would prefer to spend the day.

  This is how my wife would deal with it and she is quite good with knotty relationships.

  What is the purpose of her visit? Is she using you as cheap hotel or is it because love you and wants to rebuild her relationship with you? In that case you would be looking for unconditional love and she has to accept you for what you are. You do not tell her what to believe and she has no right to impose the same onto you.

  Is there a higher standard for those seeking reinstatement?

  it seems that more is required of disfellowshipped people who are trying to be reinstated than witnesses who are in good standing.. for example, i often hear that a disfellowshipped person must have a good record of meeting attendance before being considered for reinstatement.

  if they are not regular in attendance their request for reinstatement will be denied.

  but, witnesses in good standing are not disciplined or punished in any way for missing meetings.. and what if the disfellowshipped person is known to be socializing with coworkers or dating a worldly person?

  Depends who you are and who your family knows. If you are a nobody you will have to jump through hoops, if your dad is theCOBE (it is unlikely you would be DF'd in the first place) your reinstatement would be more or less automatic. Don't mean to be synical but I have seen it first hand.
