I basically disqualified by saying that I need to look after issues in my own household. I made it very clear to my friends that it was entirely my choice and not forced upon me. The announcement at the hall was as directed by the org, but then the Brother said "I'm sure we like to show appreciation for the work Bro. Cantleave has done".

How do elders step down?
by BlackSwan of Memphis incatching up on some of the posts a thought came to mind..... .
if an elder or ms wants to step down, what is the process?
can it be as simple as saying "i need to step down" without having to supply an explanation?.

The documents in the congregation is called the "specialist shepherding file" and a record is kept indefinitely if the "wrongdoer" is not reinstated. The congregation records do not have any detail of the wrongdoing the just the names of the Elders serving on the JC and the date of the decision. Reproofs are kept for 5 years and then destroyed. After someone has been reinstated the the record is only held for years. The names of sex offenders are treated differently and are permanently kept on the file even after reproof or reinstatement.
I have no idea what records are kept at branch level.

I fee free to make personal decisions without having to worry about what others think. Generally I am still "good", but then I am very happily married and my family is the most important thing in my life so I don't need to play the field. So I am probably no worse than when I was attending meetings.

Australian Senator Slams Scientology in Parliment - Could JWs Be Next?
by Hopscotch inaustralian senator xenophon slammed scientology in a speech in parliment.
it was covered last night on national tv here by a current affairs program today tonight.
by sheer chance (as i usually do not watch tv) it was starting when i went into my mil's room (she is a jw who lives with us) so i stayed and watched the program.. the senator stated at the end of his speech, "scientology is not a religious organisation, it is a criminal organisation that hides behind its so-called religious beliefs.".

You asked whether JW's could be next. If a Journalist and Politician makes a point of investigating the Cultish behaviours of the JW's, then they very well maybe.

Regardless of whether it is dangerous or not, studies do not support the conclucion that it actually works, for both the regular and H1N1 vaccine.
What studies would they be then?

As Snowbird has just said it is your decision. My wife is diabetic and has been given the jab for years and has had the H1N1 last week. She has never had any side effects (other than a painful arm for a couple of days.

New (non Witness) here
by juci32 inhello guys!i am just introducing myself here.
i have been visiting this site for about a year but never really posted much but i have really learned and enjoyed the topics on this forum, in fact i think this is the best discussion forum i have yet to come across .. a little about my situation is i am a non religious person married to a devout witness, when i met him 4 yrs ago he was out in the "world", never really mentioned his beliefs as we were enjoying life without it.
the more we dated the more i realized that something wasn't right.

Hi Welcome to the forum. Has he read Crisis of Conscience by Raymond Franz? That is real eye opener to active dubs if they read it with an open mind.
