dozy: I was not aware of this statement, that judicial actions should not be taken, in the article of 80. Even if there was no case, at least it seemed to be a probability. I´ll have to check, what the current stance is regarding real cannibalism. If this is reason for dfd, then we can conclude, viewing transplant as cannibalsim was indeed ground for dfd, and I withdraw my former statement.

dozy: sorry for nitpicking, but organ transplants, while heavy frowned upon from 67 to 80, were no disfellowshipping offense.
Regarding the case: anybody know, if there were kind of fund rasing among witnesses to pay for this sister, in case she would loose the court case ?

How To Properly Interpret The Watchtower Society
by metatron ini have a long history in this cult, at various levels.
a few of you, out there in cyberspace, share a similar experience - but many do not.. i'm going to tell you how to interpret things that happen in the organization, as well as what is written in the magazines.. it's not terribly difficult because they are so reactionary.
a fellow bethelite corrected me on this point when i accused them of being fascists.

sounds about right, the whole structur contributes to that, elders report to CO, CO and DO report to the branch, branch to headquarter, writing department is assigned with corresponding articles....its all reaction, no divine revelation, or at least real leadership....

Was Judas Present During "The Lord's Evening Meal"?
by dontplaceliterature inso...i heard the speaker during the memorial mention this.
he said for a fact, that judas would not have been present.
however, upon reading luke 22, you see clearly that the argument about judas started after jesus instituted the new covenant.

very interesting, never thought about it before. Yes, I can see why both sides have arguemnts for and against, however, it is the "certainty" of the WTS that upsets me.
WTS clearly lacks humility, thinking of themsleves as mouthpiece of God, they seem to be forced (by themselves) always to have answers.
You are not allowed to disagree, until they disagree with themselves (new light ).

Did you watch R rated movies when you were in it?
by ldrnomo inlast night, i watched an r rated movie that featured violence.
at least 30 people were shot in the first 45 min of the movie.. while i was in and an elder, i watched r rated movies all the time just didn't talk about it.
so how many of you watched r rated movies even though "mother" said not to?.

never understood the big fuzz about R-rated movied over in the US. Its not such a big deal here, just avoid gore or porn content. The rest is pretty much up to the conscience. Of course we also have those extreme ones, they frown upon anything "worldly".
oh, and "twilight" is also a big no no ...even though many young witnesses watch it regardless..

I dont think we should read too much into this simplified approach of the WTS.
The growth, in especially western lands, is due to immigrants, with poor English skills. Mostly they attend the Watchtower study, with a puzzled face during many paragraphs, and comment sometimes saying "Jehovah" or "Jesus loves us" etc...
For those people, it is important to get the point: Obey the slave, then you can get saved....

during mostly boring WT study I get time to look (read) those extar artcilces in there, I noticed also the picture, and showed to my wife. We had a good laugh...
I more and more wonder, how this things can slip through...or like some other poster mentioned, the mags are really designed for uneducated desperate soziopaths, they accept everything as long as somebody the org) accepts them...

How do JW's know that the GB is getting closer to the truth?
by Mad Dawg intheir claim, to cover up changed teachings, is that they are always getting closer to the truth.
how do we know that the gb is closer now than they were 50 or a hundred years ago?
how do we know that the gb hasn't been drifting away for the last 50 years?.

The point is, nobody would object to corrections of understanding in itself. Its rather a humble approach, that would even be typical for a genuine searcher of truth.
The society likes to paint themselves this way. However, reality is different, because
1) they never say , something was wrong, now its right, or that they got it wrong the first time, no the call it "refinement" and "new light". Those words are used to cover up what it really was, namely error.
2) they demand absolute obedience to current understanding, they do not allow questioning them or even making your own research. The warning against independent thinking are to be found time and again in their literatur. Disagreement, even if later on may become "new light", is punished with shunning.
3) they claim to be Gods only channel of communication. Such a high claim must stand up to closest scrutiny. Any critisizm should be easily dismissed, and evdence of Gods direction should be clear and overwhelming. The opposite is true, unfortunately.
KJW53, you also said:
I will take my chances at judgement 7 days a week with a religion that made mistakes and corrected them, i would never go to judgement with disunified religions that shove the teachings of Jesus aside and kill one another for a man made word patriotism, Millions upon millions slaughtered, not to mention all of the family lines cut off as well. Not to mention the teachers failing to warn them about the false god worship practices the world added to their holy days. We shall see who satan owns.
It is true, organized religion brought lots of pain to mankind, besides some good things as well. Whether JW are, considering their size, causing as much evil as others, is often a matter of viewpoint. You also can not excuse a thief by saying, well a murderer is much worse. What is wrong is wrong, no matter if big or little.
Also you state the premise, that religions will be judged by God. This is often used by JW. However, God will judge individuals not organizations.
