Are Witnesses encouraged to talk about their non-JW mates?
by Nickolas inmy wife and i don't discuss the watchtower too much.
i'm atheist, and she knows there's nothing she can say to change that.
besides, she knows i've been doing a great deal of research into the society and could decimate any argument she could put forward that the wtbts is what it says it is, so she doesn't want to go there at all.

I was never encouraged to talk about my UBM. Then, again, I was a college grad (only one in congregation that was), my spouse was a professional and I think we intimidated most of them. I was pretty much left alone. The only disussions I had were with other wives about normal husband-wife areas (he does/doesn't pick up after himself type of things.)

Who Do You Think Are Overrated Singers Or Movie/TV Stars?
by minimus ini think patti labelle is too much of a screamer when she "sings".. i don't think jerry seinfeld is all that funny.. i'm just not into george clooney.
he's way overrated!.

TV: Charlee Sheen. Even before his melt-down, I couldn't stand his show.
Movie: The lead guy from Dances with Wolves - walked out on that movie and avoid all others when he shows up. Happily, I can't remember his name, just his looks.

Time demands of the Jehovah's Witness religion compared with other religions?
by stapler99 ini've been wondering how other religions, such as other christian denominations, would compare to the jw's in their time demands.. .
i'll lay out the approximate hours per week below.
(i know some of the meeting lengths have changed in recent years, and the bookstudy has been abolished.

The Mormons spend a lot of time, also. There was a reorganized church near me when I was growing up and they met there multiple times during the week. Plus, for guys there is the two year missionary work.

Charlie Sheen
by mrsjones5 ini came rather late to watching the show "two and a half men" and have been watching mostly the reruns, which i have enjoyed immensely (the story lines are funny).
i try to catch the first runs when i can.
to me this show is really a homage of charlie sheen's life.

I know I'm in the minority, but I never enjoyed 2 1/2 men. While an occasional line or two might be funny, I found the entire subject matter distasteful. Now I've learned Mr. Sheen is making $2 million dollars AN EPISODE - what a complete waste of money.

by MrFreeze indoes anybody here do any volunteer work?
i mean real volunteer work.
not the jw "knock on doors and annoy people" kind of volunteer work.

I've volunteered at a park - doing office things, not outdoors stuff. Occasional help at an elementary school.

What is happening to JWN ?...So many topics not relating to Jehovah's Witnesses!
by koolaid-man innote the home page..wow how it has changed.. jehovah's witness discussion forumthe place to discuss anything relating to jehovah's witnesses and the watchtower bible and tract society... or just make new friends!.
many of the posts have nothing to do with with jehovah's witnesses and new ones coming on this board would be turned off by the content of many of these off color posts.
foul inappropriate language which is not proper or suitable for exiting witnesses to visibly inspect.

Doesn't Matthew 22:39 say to love your neighbor as yourself? If so, then one must needs love themselves first. How can you love others if you hate yourself?

Do you watch NBC's "Community"
by Bystander39 ini don't watch the show, but the latest tv guide (jan 10-16, 2011) mentions that the study group on the show, which includes a jw names troy, among others, "all came together to celebrate the holidays.
" i'm curious as to how a jw, even if fictional, participated in an ecumenical event, let alone a holiday..

Thanks, Mrs Jones. I should have thought of the 'double-life' that so many are forced to assume.

Contribution Boxes At The Book Groups , Did You Donate More There Than The Hall ?
by Hairyhegoat inthis may have been covered a few years back but the thought came to me just how much money the wathtower lost in contributions when they got rid of the book study groups in witnesess homes.
my book group was at my parents house and as it was always full, over 30 drones every tuesday night.
this caused mayhem in the road outside with all the cars double parking etc... the jw's at my group always put loads of wonga into the tin on the welsh dresser!

Same as DanaBug here - There were never any contribution boxes. Was it a GB idea (Great Britain, NOT Governing Body)?
