Good point LongHairGal. The DC in Sacramento contained more than usual elderly, disabled witnesses., and ones with emotional problems. Many complained about the heat and the drive. It seems logical to stop these District Conventions and just focus on the Circuit Assemblies.

No more 3-day DCs starting in 2013?
by respectful_observer inapologies if there is another recent thread on this, but i have heard from 4 different people in 3 different geographic areas (including someone who does advance work for the dcs), that beginning in 2013 the three day dc program will be replaced by a second two-day circuit assembly.
some people were passing the info along like a secret, others seemed to think that everyone already knew.. if everyone in j-dub land is already talking about this, how is it not all over this forum??.
anyway, can anyone confirm or deny?.

Is the Governing Body overdue to make new appointments?
by cedars ini'm doing some research for a new blog article on the governing body.
it's in a question-and-answer or "faq" format, and attempts to give simple but well-founded answers to most questions that people could conceivably ask about the governing body.. one thing i noticed when looking at the history of the governing body is that we seem to be in the middle of a lengthy "dry spell" when it comes to making new appointments.. gerrit losch is currently the longest-serving member having been appointed in 1994. however, his appointment came at the end of a 17 year period in which no appointments were made.
this contrasts notably with the remarkable six-year period between 1971 and 1977 when 15 members were added.. since losch's appointment, 4 members were added in 1999 (herd, lett, pierce and splane) and 2 more recently in 2005 (morris and jackson).. the seven year spell since the last appointments were made has seen the deaths of barber, barr, jaracz, shroeder and sydlik - cutting the number of governing body members almost in half.

There is a danger of adding more GB members. It may result in less of an agreement with GB decisions. Also they do not want to add a potential alpha male to the group. A younger member added may desire changes that the present body does not want.

Interestingly, my wife asked me about this case. Because the visiting public speaker in his talk brought up this case and how the WTS lost. He then spoke about the danger of visiting apostate sites who are giving their spin to the case. I was amazed that an elder would even bring up this case from the platform.

I remember the song YMCA was viewed as bad. There was a local needs talk condemning any witness who went to the skate board park as worldly.

A book study elder once told me I had to take my baby out of the book study house and spank him to keep him quiet. I followed his counsel and went to the car and spanked him. He cried even more and I felt so bad that I cried. I never trusted or liked that elder after that horrible event.

Thanks for the post and glad to hear you were able to conquer the alcohol addiction. I remember being in a judicial committee meeting as an elder "helping" a couple with the problem with alcohol. Our suggestion was pray and use a calendar to mark when you failed. This never helped them. They eventually got df because of alcohol abuse.

Skirts and trousers (pants if you're in the US)
by Chariklo injust what is it that the watchtower thinks is so much more modest and respectful to jehovah about wearing a skirt instead of trousers?
that is, unless you live in a culture that has trousers as the norm for women, as in india.. something today brought this to my mind.
i can't even remember what it was, but it led to thinking again about this.

Billy you made my day. Love your comment. Now the GB will have to ban pants.
